Editorial Reviews

Review

Robert W Funk, Chairman of the Jesus Seminar writes: 'Bishop Spong is a singularity among ecclesiastical leaders in the twentieth century. His candor, courage and acumen are unparalleled. He takes refuge in no vestiges of Christian orthodoxy. He gathers the anachronisms of traditional faith and nails them to the cross...'

5.0 out of 5 stars Spong's Words Still Powerful, July 27, 2008

This review is from: Why Christianity Must Change Or Die Intl (Paperback)
It's been about ten years since John Shelby Spong wrote WHY CHRISTIANITY MUST CHANGE OR DIE. I count his words as true and still significant for Christianity's need to shift its belief from the God beyond the sky to the God who is deep within life and all of us. The ancient words of scripture have been so calcified among belief systems as to make God inaccessible. Many in exile over the theistic 'God of the sky' welcome a new path on which it is possible to experience the divine presence without coated 'churchianity' and the ancient language for guilt, rewards and punishment. Spong's WHY CHRSTIANITY MUST CHANGE OR DIE continues to be a welcome relief and perhaps an advent for experiencing God as never imagined.

this alone challenges bliever to really think about their relationship with God as is the bible a colection of myths handed down for years . How much truth is in the word of God if the accounts of Jesus were record forty years after his death? how can God allow sufering and starvation in the world and yet claim to be a just God. why dont he feed starving people mania with this?
