A New Christmas Tradition in Our House!,
By Brenda (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect (Hardcover)
We ALL love this book! The illustrations are beautiful, and the message compelling! It's about a tree that sacrifices its beautiful shape and potential reward to help animals, but the parallel for us is obvious. As the last page says,"living for the sake of others makes us most beautiful in the eyes of God." I HIGHLY recommend this book!

I am 6 years old and my mom read this book to me tonight. This book is not scary. It's good because it teaches you about the love of Jesus Christ.

A Holiday Must for All Children,
This review is from: Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect (Hardcover)
This poignant tale of a generous little tree who gives wholly of himself to those around him reminds us all of the true message of Christmas and the sacrifice that each parent makes for his child. It's a moving legend for all ages and a wonderful gift for loved ones.

Nice Story, Choppy Ending, Still a Good Lesson to Learn,

This review is from: Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect (Hardcover)
This is a picture book for kids about Christmas. The story is nice, the trees all want to be perfect so that they get chosen to be the royal Christmas Tree for the kingdom. They all now what helps them to become the best looking most perfect Christmas tree. The littlest Christmas tree in the woods is really looking forward to being chosen because he knows he's the most perfect, but then a bunny needs refuge and he lowers his branches and protects him, this makes his branches droop, a sparrow needs help in a storm, he sreads his branches and makes a spot for her, the deer need food, he lets them nibble his limbs.
It's a good story, but I thought the end was sort of thrown together with less care than the rest of the story. The moral is that the most beautiful are the ones who give of themselves. It is a nice book, the illustrations are very pleasant, I just felt the end was a bit hasty for such a nice lead up. The lesson of the book is quite wonderful. We are using this in a First Grade catechism class to teach the value of giving.

This review is from: Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect (Hardcover)
My 7-year old son rarely talks about what happens in school and he came home telling me the whole story of "Why Christmas Tree's Aren't Perfect" because he enjoyed hearing the story from his teacher. He even wrote down the name so I could find it for our home.

Gently shows how caring and kindness count,
This review is from: Why Christmas Trees Aren't Perfect (Hardcover)
I heard this book mentioned by a motivational speaker several years ago and purchased it from the small publisher. This book is a perfect choice to read during the holiday season to highlight the idea of doing service for others and expressing kindness and caring.

The pictures are what really make this book somehting special. The little tree that sacrifices its own perfection to help others reminded me of the sad little tree from the Charlie Brown Christmas special. It's a nice little story with a nice little message about the value of actions over appearances.

This is an enchanting Christmas tale of internal beauty and acceptance. It sends a lovely message about generosity, kindness, uniqueness and hope. It also helped my children and I pick a "not so perfect" tree when we went to select ours for Christmas. My children pointed out tress that weren't perfect and we selected one that wasn't perfectly shaped and maybe a little crooked. It stands proudly in our living room and is perhaps the most lovely tree we've ever had.
