2.0 out of 5 stars Cover is messed up
When I received my book I was ecstatic! HOWEVER, either the packaging that they had it in didn't protect it well enough or the messed it up before they shipped it because the front cover has a ton of scratches on it and it has some sort of sticky black substance on it! :/ The edges of the book are all scrunched up too. Really disappointed at the quality of the cover. If I...

A fabulous book for fathers everywhere! This book really gives insight and direction for those that need a little push. The easy to read format allows anyone to pick up the book and get something out of it quickly. The photographs and words cause you to reflect on special moments of the past and shine a light on your future as a father.

On every page the reader is reminded of just what the book is about. "A Daughter Needs A Dad" is the opening statement and is followed by nuggets of golden wisdom for every daddy. The photographs help you to recall when your girl was just a young child. They also show you times when your little girl has grown up and desires those special moments shared with dad.

This book is definitely for fathers everywhere. It is for those that have little girls or for those whose daughters have grown into women. I urge you not to let this one slip out of your hands. The information contained within the pages is so powerful, you will read it time and time again, to see if you missed any of the nuggets of wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee table book, and an important reminder., February 15, 2004
This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
I was given a copy of this book by my sister Amy for Christmas this year. I have two little daughters and she obviously understands the importance of a Dad in her life and wanted me to as well.

This is not a deep read, just photos and short bits of wisdom. However, that's not to say it isn't emotionally resonating. I had tears in my eyes while reading and thinking about the role I have in my two daughter's lives. It is humbling and wonderful at the same time.

If you have daughters, or know someone who does, then this book is a simple reminder of the important role that fathers play in the healthy development of their female children. A great coffee table, or end table, book to serve as a gentle reminder of the responsibility of caring for a daughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made a difference!, May 17, 2004
This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
As the single mother of two small daughters, I've struggled through the years to keep their father active in their lives. I wanted my daughers to have a much deeper relationship with their father than simply the receipt of a child support check each month. I knew how much they would be missing if their father continued to be out of their lives for extended periods.

My mother spotted this book while shopping and glanced through it. She thought that it would really be beneficial for me to present it to my daughters' Dad. We gave it it to him as a birthday gift in January. He was visibly touched the first time he read the book and he has since begun to play a much more active role as a parent. Mr. Lang's reasons really resonated with him as he began to see the positive effect he could have in the lives of his daughters.

I was 11 when my father died, but the 11 years I had with him shaped every day of the 15 years that have followed. He was an inspiration, guide, comfort, example, hero, and friend. This book captures the undeniably unique realtionship a father shares with his daughter in exquisite photographs and touching text. Every daughter should share this with her father.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why a dad needs this book, April 3, 2002

This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
Many fathers have difficulty really expressing their love and affection towards their daughters - and daughters to their dads. In this book the feeling is evident and pervasive. Daughters mean the world to fathers and fathers are irreplaceable to their daughters. In my experience, my relationship with my father has grown steadily over time. Thankfully now, in my late twenties, I can appreciate his influence on my life and take pride in the characteristics that he has passed on to me. Just reading the opening statements from Gregory Lang made me instantly feel like sharing this special book with my father...almost as a way to help us open up more and communicate on the special bond that we share.

The photographs speak volumes of the varied relationships we all have with our fathers. Some of us are still together, laughing at our inside jokes, sharing a game of catch while we barbeque in the summer. Others of us don't have that luxury of still being together but those memories still make us smile. These pictures touch my heart by helping me to remember my dad and I growing up together but also in looking back - as I begin my new life making my own family. The images are so beautiful that I feel as though I know those people...that their faces and actions speak to the true nature of their realationships with their fathers...trust, adoration, safety, comfort, wishing he was still here.

This book is breathtaking and I look forward to surprising him on Father's Day with his own special book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth About Us All., April 1, 2002
This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
In all of my photographs, there are only two that I have which show my father and I together. In the first one, I am a few days old, and being held by Father, who is sitting beside Mother, who is gazing at me lovingly. It is the only picture of the three of us as a family. In the second one, I am two and he is holding me on Easter Sunday, outside our home, under the California sunshine.

I saw him in fleeting glimpses over the next six years, then a final time, and he was gone.

He was a father to other children, on the other side of the country, while I flipped my hair, and pretended it didn't matter. I flipped that hair for many years, refusing to reach for the tissues, crying tears I could barely own up to.

I read this book with the anticipation that I would choke up on every page, and not be able to complete it. But I did. I made myself, because I know there are other people in this world besides my father and I. My husband has a daughter, and together we have a son, and at any point, although I'm sure the author didn't intend it, those guidelines for life could be applied to any of us. We, all of us, need heros..need protecting, need to know we are loved, and need to give love in return. Somewhere, in some heart, we *are* loved and missed and longed for, and that is why we need each other. If we could not do these things for one another, we would surely die.

So Greg, thank you for this book.
And Janet, for these most moving of photographs.

4.0 out of 5 stars great gift book, December 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
I am a grown daughter with a father who is very hard to shop for. When I saw this book I knew I had found something that would express how I feel about my dad as a father figure and main male influence in my life. Since my father also has a mild case of dyslexia, I usually steer clear of books as gifts because they generally just frustrate him. However, this book, with its many beautiful photographs and short "tidbits" of text, proved to be just right for even the most hard to shop for father. This is a great "advice" book for new fathers and "thank you" book for those well-seasoned Dads.

This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
This was an excellent book and should be read by every female who has grown up without an active Father in her life. It should be read by father's who have daugters as well. I loved it so much that I went out and bought the book about the sons. Excellent work Mr. Lang! I recommend this book to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Melts your heart, November 1, 2006
This review is from: Why a Daughter Needs a Dad: A Hundred Reasons (Hardcover)
Like the author, I'm a divorced dad of daughters so his foreward struck close to home. As if the words and pictures in this book weren't sappy enough on their own, my daughters recently gave me a copy to which they'd added a sentence or a paragraph next to a dozen or so of the author's lines which resonated with them. I nearly cry every time I read it.
