Book Description

June 1, 2000
Why Do I Wheeze? is written for the medical consumer. We have compiled more information in this book than is available from two or three visits to your physician. We simply and thoroughly explain what asthma is, its known causes and currently available treatments. A complete discussion of available medications as well as appropriate use of metered dose inhalers is presented. We have included information on the home assessment of asthma severity with peak flow meters and a free copy of the "Asthma Action Plan" used at the North Shore Asthma Clinic. Additionally, we explain what kind of evaluation and treatment you should receive during an emergency visit for shortness of breath from asthma. Finally, we answer over fifty commonly asked questions about asthma. Our goal is to educate asthmatic individuals and parents of asthmatic children. Knowledge is the key to better asthma care.

A handy little pamphlet for the novice medical consumer.
Offers no great insight for clinicians or knowledgable patients.

2.0 out of 5 stars an overpriced, uninspired summary of asthma information, November 21, 2000

This review is from: Why Do I Wheeze? (Paperback)
During the past year, I have read the top 20 asthma book best sellers, and in my opinion, this overpriced little booklet ranks in the bottom third. This 70 page paperback is a reasonable but uninspired short summary of allopathic asthma information and advice, but gives little detail. There is no index, no references, no web addresses, only 3 crude drawings, only a short glossary, and a boring font. The best section is 24 pages of questions and answers. A much better summary booklet at one-third the price is the colorful Home Medical Guide to Asthma by the American College of Physicians, and the best asthma book is Dr. Tom Plaut's Asthma Guide for only $20.
