This book is essential reading for anyone who has a friend or family member unable to leave an abusive relationship. It's title highlights the frustration those of us on the outside feel while the destructive situation continues. It is a diary of one persons struggle to free herself and her children from such a debilitating relationship. It is an eye-opener for those of us who have not had such experiences, and an inspiration for those who are now struggling to free themselves from an abusive relationship. In addition, it provides invaluable insight for those who work with people like Lisa as they struggle to free themselves and their children from physically and/or emotionally abusive relationships.

I am so glad I read this book because it validated what I went through in my marriage and what other abused women go through. It's totally unlike any other book I read on the subject. It's terrific! It's a woman's diary on "Why Doesn't She Just Leave?" and it will impact the way you think. I highly recommend it."

This is a good read. It is amazing how your self esteem can fall when you give
your heart to an abusive man. This book takes you on a personal journey of a
woman in such a relationship. It shares with you her core feelings and the
steps she takes to once again take her life back.

I learned about this book at a local event, a walk against domestic violence. Although I grew up in a happy, non-violent household myself, I became the second husband of a formerly-abused wife, and I wanted to understand what it must have been like for my precious wife to have lived her life walking on eggshells, waiting for the next violent explosion.

I found this book gripping! As I read it, I found myself rooting for Lisa to get out of the horrible situation she was trapped in. The more I read, the more I understood why someone (like my wife) would stay in an abusive relationship. Lisa had her self-esteem knocked down so low, that she believed that she wouldn't be able to survive without Mike, and she believed that he loved her. By the time I finished the book, I really understood, sad as it is, the title question, "Why Doesn't She Just Leave?" I believe that having read this book, I will be a better, more understanding husband to my wife.

I felt tremendous relief learning that Lisa was finally able to get out and create a new, happier life with her two children. It was almost as if a huge burden had been lifted from MY shoulders! I can only hope that Lisa is living a happy, healthy, carefree life today.

Everybody should read this compelling book. I never could understand why abused women don't leave their relationships. I just thought that they liked to complain and that if it was really that bad, they'd leave. Now I understand how beaten down they get and how afraid of their husbands they are. I felt very bad for Lisa, and happy that she ended up leaving her husband. It's sad that women are going through this every day, and important for other people to understand.
