5.0 out of 5 stars And I Thought I Knew Everything....
OK, so, I have this thing where I buy little books to give as gifts to dog friends, you know, in case they come over to the house and bring me something, I can just whip out the little gift and pretend I had it all planned just for them.

So it has to be something good, or else I'll look like a total loser and we can't have that, can we?

And now...

3.0 out of 5 stars For Newbie dog owners
Good book if you are new to owning a dog. I've had dogs for over 20 years now, so not much was new to me in this book. It was enjoyable and easy to read though. Very good if you are new to owning a dog! Very useful information.

OK, so, I have this thing where I buy little books to give as gifts to dog friends, you know, in case they come over to the house and bring me something, I can just whip out the little gift and pretend I had it all planned just for them.

So it has to be something good, or else I'll look like a total loser and we can't have that, can we?

And now this book is the one.

Because while I wondered if it would be kind of "yawn, who could ask such an obvious question?" and "doesn't EVERYONE KNOW THAT already?", the authors actually found all these genuinely interesting and usually quite funny questions to ask, including several I had no clue as to how to answer.

On reflection I'm not sure I should have admitted that publicly.

Many copies of this will be flying around the country to my dog friends this holiday season - if, that is, I have any dog friends who won't already have bought it for themselves.

I adopted a rescue puppy 15 months ago and before I did, I studied everything I could find about being a puppy parent and everything I could get my hands on about new medical discoveries, vaccines and overall health care for dogs. Technology and science, update dramatically, every day and being informed was my main objective.

I recently came across this little gem of a book and I LOVE IT !! By just living with animals, you tend to understand them, but there are many new and interesting ideas and knowledge in this book that just knocked my socks off !! I love the way it was written, I can tell these people truly love their animals, and I learned, learned, learned !! My dogs feel that I am educated now, and who else's opinion really matters ?

This little volume is a treasure trove of information about our crazy and wonderful canine companions! As a family doctor for four-legged family members, I have been asked many of these questions over the years. I never expected to find such a concise compellation of terrific answers!
My colleague, Dr. Marty Becker, and Gina Spadafori have done a wonderful job of imparting knowledge sprinkled with good humor. A must-read for any dog lover!

5.0 out of 5 stars I read this book to my dog, and she agrees: it's absolutely correct!, January 18, 2007

This book answers those burning questions your dog just won't answer for you. Gina and Marty have special insight into dogs and their behaviour, which to humans may often seem odd. But my dog assures me they are right on the muzzle with their observations. (She is, in fact, thinking of writing the book Why Humans Won't Drink Perfectly Good Toilet Water.)

I sent this book to my sister-in-law, a new puppy owner, and its companion book about cats to my daughter, a new kitten owner. I'm sure their respective pets will be relieved when their companion humans realise their seemingly odd behaviour is perfectly natural.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating Canine Capers, September 21, 2006
This review is from: Why Do Dogs Drink Out of the Toilet?: 101 of the Most Perplexing Questions Answered About Canine Conundrums, Medical Mysteries and Befuddling Behaviors (Paperback)
As a pet care columnist and behavior consultant, I've received many of the same canine queries--but this book offers a few hum-dingers I've never been asked! What fun! After co-authoring two "Chicken Soup" pet books with Dr. Marty Becker, I'm jealous that my friend Gina Spadafori had the fun this time around. I hope my own work can offer half as much insight and entertainment as this delightful "uncensored" dog-matic dialogue of all-things canine. The book offers education in tasty treat-size helpings, and should be considered the ultimate reward for any dog lover. Even more importantly, this book provides edu-tainment for dog-loving readers. And that's just plain good medicine for everyone concerned. Click--good boy/girl!

This review is from: Why Do Dogs Drink Out of the Toilet?: 101 of the Most Perplexing Questions Answered About Canine Conundrums, Medical Mysteries and Befuddling Behaviors (Paperback)
If you're an animal lover, you'll just find this book lots of fun to read! Marty Becker & Gina Spadafori wrote this book from a dogs point of view and it makes sense and is humorous at times too. There are many good questions that were answered in this book, many that I didn't know even after having several dogs in my life. I look forward to their next book with more answers.

I found that I know a lot about dogs but there always the questions of why? why do does do this or why do they do that. this book is very interesting in getting to know your dog better and why he does the things he does.

As with the companion book by the same author about cats, my 7th graders enjoyed this book tremendously. They were able to get answers to lots of questions that arent' in the typical breed books.
