5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Personal
It's rare to be sharing so many intimate details about what's right and what's wrong in a marriage, probing as deeply into one's heart - even with best friends - as these women do. For some reason I find it harder to talk about my relationship openly since I've been married. I'm amazed that these authors had the courage to write such personal stories. I couldn't put it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting...
This novel is a collection of bestselling and award winning female writers telling their stories about marriage. These brave souls let readers walk right into their private lives for an up close and personal look. Some were married for very brief times before the divorces happened. Others were married for decades, yet Divorce, the meanie, still reared his ugly head...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Personal, February 2, 2006
This review is from: Why I'm Still Married: Women Write Their Hearts Out on Love, Loss, Sex, and Who Does the Dishes (Hardcover)
I couldn't put it down, long after I knew I should be asleep, for several nights in a row. I'm definately going to share this book with my best friends; maybe it will inspire us to help each other through some of the difficult stuff we keep inside.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected, August 5, 2006

I was expecting this to be a collection of "old fashioned" love stories-- women who found their mates early on and had longtime (20+ years) marriages that had endured hardships due to the stamina, patience, and tolerance of the women. However, that was the exception to the rule (thankfully). Most of the women had been married more than once, had loved and lost and found something better the second or even third time around. It was very interesting to read about the different types of relationships, both conventional and unconventional, in which love was so strong that commitment was a natural and desireable outcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Am I Still Married?, February 22, 2006

This review is from: Why I'm Still Married: Women Write Their Hearts Out on Love, Loss, Sex, and Who Does the Dishes (Hardcover)
Each marriage had commonalities - conflict, love, lust, anger. And they all shared a deep desire to work hard, change when needed and support loved ones in their times of change. That is not to say that any two stories were alike or that any marriage is the same. It made me wonder "Why am I still married after 18 years?" And it prompted me to discuss it with my husband, which brought us closer together. Thanks to the wonderful authors for being so powerfully frank about their lives.

So WHY do we still get married and/or remarried? For the answer to that puzzling question, the following authors speak up: Anne Bernays, Marge Piercy, Susan Dworkin, Aimee Lius, Kathleen Aguero, Bharati Mukherjee, Erica Jong, Julia Alvarez, Jean Trounstine, Susan Cheever, Maria Hinojosa, Eve LaPlante, Jennifer Heath, Elizabeth Graver, Helen Fremont, Liza Wieland, Audrey Schulman, Hannah Pine, Karen Propp, ZZ Packer, Kamy Wicoff, Meredith Maran, Diana Abu-Jaber, and Nell Casey.

*** This book will not only make you think, but even laugh a bit due to many humorous tales. Very good reading! ***

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging look at marriage, June 28, 2006

Propp and Trounstine's book is terrific. The 24 contributors are all talented writers who tell the intimate stories of their marriages with honesty and integrity.

The book did not answer why I am still married after 30+ years.
Still, it made me feel good to know that other women have found the journey a worthwhile one. This book is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great insight, December 4, 2007
By
This book contains 24 essays on the topic of marriage. Female authors share their experiences of the married life and why they wouldn't trade it for anything. Reading it made me feel like getting advice from wise friends on why it's important to work things out in a marriage. I truly enjoyed this and found it very positive and encouraging.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea Falls Short, April 10, 2007
This review is from: Why I'm Still Married: Women Write Their Hearts Out on Love, Loss, Sex, and Who Does the Dishes (Hardcover)
I didn't finish this book. In the beginning it was enjoyable to hear other women's stories, but they all started to sound the same after a while. It was also disturbing to note that several of these women were on their second or third marriage.
