5.0 out of 5 stars a nice suprise, October 5, 2005
This review is from: Why (Audio CD)
i took a chance on this album. i had heard the song "why" from a huge 130 song sampler from metal for the masses. well i got the cd and i was suprised to find out that there isn't a bad song on here. infact the song "why" that was put on the sampler isn't even my favorite. infanct i enjoyed the songs this never ending dreaming, lost and torn, Set me free, and my dear enemies more. and track number 6 "Save this world" almost makes me think of soemthing the band "opeth" would do. the other tracks are all good as well. the reason why i gave this cd 5 stars is that even after i have lsitened to it 40 plus times, it has staying power. i can't seem to ware it out. And i have a 700+ cd collection, and i always find myself listening to it at least once a week. i personally listen to heavy metal, death metal, and black metal, but i really enjoy this and recomend it to anyone who likes rock or metal.

3.0 out of 5 stars A conservative three stars, it probably deserves four, November 12, 2004

This review is from: Why (Audio CD)
Mercury Tide's "Why?" is the first solo project from Dirk Thurisch. If you are not familiar with Dirk Thurisch, he is the lead vocalist for the metal band Angel Dust. Angel Dust's music consist of emotionally charged power metal with expansive chorus melodies that fans of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest will enjoy. The sound of Mercury Tide is different from that of Angel Dust, but will still be familiar to fans of the band. It's not power metal, but it is a classy hard rock sound that borders on metal at times. If you enjoy a strong and emotional vocal performance, heavy guitars and tasteful keyboard passages, then you will like this album. As reflected by the song titles, the overall theme of the cd is personal and moving. Stand-out tracks are Why?, Lost and Torn, Back To Reality, Set Me Free, and Alone, but the entire cd is solid from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what music needs!, February 2, 2004
This review is from: Why (Audio CD)
This album is not just a combination of creative minds from different rock bands. It's a masterpiece of sounds long forgotten that reminds you of what rock music is all about. It's 11 tracks are just amazing. If you liked Babe I'm gonna miss you from Led Zeppelin you're going to love Sons of the Ocean (Track #4).
