Book Description

October 14, 2006
Why do Christians make a big deal about an obscure baby born in a small town, Bethlehem? Why Bethlehem? Why Jesus? Why does it make a difference to me? In this book, David Jeremiah explains in his hallmark style for both believers and skeptics alike why it's important to examine again the birth of that baby, Jesus. With the publicity surrounding New Line Cinema's The Nativity Story movie this fall, you'll want this book. It's at just the right price to give away to people who are searching for the real meaning of Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and thought provoking, January 8, 2010

SOmeone recommended this to me, so I found it half price somewhere and picked it up. What a treasure! Each reading offered me so much information and gave me pause to really think. I think it is a great book, and next year plan to go through it with my kids at Christmas. Several people popped in my mind that might benefit from this book. It doesn't preach, it teaches

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas in High-Def, December 4, 2009
This review is from: Why the Nativity? (Paperback)
Why the Angels? Why Bethlehem? Why Mary? Why the Star of Bethlehem?

"Why the Nativity?" is a nice informative book. I say "nice" in that it's full of Biblical facts yet its tone is one of effortlessness. Each chapter ends with discussion questions for anyone who wants to go the extra mile. (I didn't, but it's there if you're so inclined.)

The book paints a colorful picture of Bethlehem at the time in which Jesus was born. It helped me see the event more clearly. I'll even go as far as to say that some Biblical things "clicked" with me for the first time. And, I love that with scripture -- when things just suddenly stand out -- as if it's the first time you've heard it.

I personally liked the chapter regarding the star of Bethlehem the most. It reminded me of an astronomy movie I saw a few year back at the New York Planetarium in which they mentioned a bright constellation occurring in 7 B.C. Here as well, I read about the year in which Jupiter and Saturn were aligned (in 7 B.C.) to create a bright "star" and that Jupiter was considered a star of "royal" status; something the Magi would have known. I didn't know; something learned.

A nice informative read about the infinite realm breaking through in to our clueless midst.

Yes, a nice read indeed.

This review is from: Why the Nativity? (Paperback)
I husband suggested I read this book after he found it while living overseas on military duty in the Sinai Peninsula. While both Christians, we had fallen away from a focus on faith until recently. This book was so nice to read during this wonderful season of celebration. I felt it was so eloquently written and really captured my attention during each chapter. I am so glad I read it this year and I would have paid more for it. Thank you to this author for his wonderful gift of writing about the nativity.
