Review

What does it mean to be "free?" Are you free if your life is directed with micromanagement from a far-off capitol?

The authors, fervent advocates of individual freedom, point out that many current laws are oppressive. In spite of the separation of powers established by the Constitution, many of our current laws are written by bureaucrats, administered by them, and finally judged by them yet they are in opposition to those freedoms set forth by the Constitution. The book details the historical development of the federal government. It describes how the American middle class has been abandoned by those who control the federal government. Career insiders, since the days of Franklin D. Roosevelt, have used their influence and power to promote their love of big, tax-and-spend, centralized government and a radical social ideology, while providing high paying taxpayer-funded jobs for themselves. Further chapters outline the loss of inalienable rights in so many areas of life. Twenty-four examples of constitutional usurpation are thoroughly explored. Finally, techniques are suggested whereby citizens can organize to restore the freedoms originally guaranteed by the Constitution.

James Ronald Kennedy is director of risk management for a Louisiana insurance company. He was elected as commander for the Louisiana division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans for the years 1989-92 and regularly participates in Civil War re-enactments.

Walter Donald Kennedy is also a Past Commander for the Louisiana division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal of the National Sons of Confederate Veterans. -- From the Publisher --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

Little did the founders of the United States foresee the extent to which their good planning could go astray. Modern Americans are not as free as our forefathers were. In spite of the separation of powers established by the Constitution, many of our current laws are written by bureaucrats, administered by them, and finally judged by them--yet these laws are in opposition to those freedoms set forth by the Constitution!
James Ronald Kennedy and Walter Donald Kennedy assert that America has been led astray by the bureaucratic political establishment, the liberal media, and the "politically correct" educational establishment. They describe how individual liberties have been degraded, how status-quo politicians keep themselves in power with your tax dollars, and how the very foundations of middle-class America--from its work ethic to its religious principles--are threatened.
Why Not Freedom!: America's Revolt Against Big Government details many current laws that are oppressive and suggests how citizens can organize to restore the freedoms originally guaranteed by the Constitution--by returning proper power to the sovereign states so that each can protect itself from the abuses of the federal government. The hardworking, law-abiding, morally and financially responsible men and women who make up the middle class must get back what is rightfully theirs: "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
As authors and historians, twin brothers James Ronald Kennedy and Walter Donald Kennedy are dedicated to reclaiming the freedoms--and responsibilities--promised to all citizens by America's Constitution. Together, they wrote Was Jefferson Davis Right? and the best-selling The South Was Right!, which has sold almost 100,000 copies and is now in its tenth printing. Walter Donald Kennedy's Myths of American Slavery and James Ronald Kennedy's Reclaiming Liberty are also published by Pelican.

The Kennedy brothers have done it again. This researched history provides some insight as to how we got to where we are at present. Then, most interestingly, the authors give some suggestions to unravel this mess we've been forced into by our present tyrannical government. These solutions offer a refreshing possibility of escape unlike other works that offer the problems without any possible solutions. You may find yourself highly agitated but keep reading, possibilities await you near the end.

The Kennedy's provide a well-needed dose of sanity for 1990's America. The chapters of the book would stand on their own easily and each is worth the price of the book. If you liked Limbaugh's, "The Way Things Ought To Be", you'll like this book.

I first read The South Was Right, and had to read this book. I truly believe this was one of the most well argued political discourses in years. The damage done to our nation by socialization and acceptance of mediocrity is incalculable. No one can rationally argue that secession isn't a Constitutional right, as it is an implied power, as any Constitutionalist will tell you. This book hit every claim they set out to prove on the head of the nail. Pick it up, and read it. It will shock you!

Once again the Kennedy Brothers have written an outstanding piece that should be required reading in our History and Sociology classes. What makes their writing unique is that they not only have summations with questions and answers as if being presented with questioned by an outsider, but they also have a good amount of references for further research.

An outstanding book, easy to read and solid material. I highly recomed it.
