4.0 out of 5 stars This album kills!, July 10, 2004
This review is from: Why Play Around (Audio CD)
I finally got a copy of this rare classic the other day and I can't say I was disappointed! Nothin' here but great riffs to go with matching lyrics that help create some of the most killer and memorable songs in metal history. "Undead" is my personal favorite, alongside "Humanoid", and I strongly advise anyone who hasn't heard it yet to get this album someway, somehow and make your ears bleeeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wargasm_Why Play Around, November 13, 2003
This review is from: Why Play Around (Audio CD)
These three crazy mutha f'ers brought metal a new edge with their insane drummer Barry "THe f'in Animal" Speilberg on the skins, master guitarist and Barry's big bro, Richard Spielberg with his furious leads and the crunchiest crunchin your ears will ever hear. He also shows off his talent on a beautiful classical cover of "Le Cou Cou" along with legendary singer, song writer, and second best only to the late great Clifford Burton (R.I.P. Cliff!!!!!!!) Bob Mayo(naise!-just kiddin' Bob, I know you hate that!) on the big bad bass. Bob's vocals are like a cross between Algy Ward of Tank and Tom Araya possessed by the devil. Their final album Suicide Notes will also make the hair on the back of your head stand at attention. Huge in Europe, especially Germany, only to be screwed over by their label back in the USA. Rest in peace 'GASM!!! EVERY METALHEAD SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST FIVE COPIES OF THIS ON TAPE AND CD HIDDEN AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS SO YOU'LL ALWAYS HAVE ONE IN YOUR POSSESSION!!!!!!!!!!!If you can find it, buy it.

A dang shame these boys didn't get the financial breaks other less talented bands have. The song Wargasm is in my opinion one of the greatest metal songs of all time. The tightness of this band is rivaled only by metallica's older classic music. Lyrics are great and the music is just incredible. Metal with a quality that makes this band easy to listen to. All Wargasm cd's are masterpieces. They are one of the most talented 3 peice bands ever. The wall of sound that they produce is stunning. Vocals fit perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good old speed metal!, May 20, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Why Play Around (Audio CD)
I first heard this band's demo tape, named Rainbows Flowers Kittens and Puppies, when they were called Maniac. Then I saw them in a Boston dance club that featured live metal bands once a week. My right ear is still ringing (no kidding, but don't feel too sorry for me :). They changed their name to Wargasm after a dispute with another band (so I heard).

These guys play fast, complex music. The guitar riffs are amazing. The singing is kind of flat but then again, people used to complain about Metallica's vocals, too. "Revenge" and "Bullets & Blades" are some of the best loud, angry songs you'll hear. "Undead" is one of the fastest outside of Slayer. Good stuff!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very rare but VERY COOL!!!, October 4, 2001
This review is from: Why Play Around (Audio CD)
I first heard of these guys on a Midwest college station and thought they were awesome. I searched everywhere for the album and stumbled on it in a pawn shop about 7 years later. I gotta tell ya I was floored that these guys didn't make it big. I don't know much about them other than they ROCK! The riffs are classic speed metal heavyness, and it's hard to believe they're only a three piece. Best songs are Revenge and Wargasm, a ten minute plus opus about nuclear war from one man's point of view. Somewhat reminiscent of Megadeth's early stuff. If you can find this precious metal, I suggest you get your hands on it cause it rules. My copy is safely locked away and I'm never giving it up! HA HA HA HAAAA!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars they should have been big, December 24, 1999
This review is from: Why Play Around (Audio CD)
This is one of the best thrash albums ever made. These guys were off to a good start until they got screwed by their record company. They just never seemed to get back on track afterwards.

5.0 out of 5 stars ALL TIME CLASSIC, August 27, 2005

one of the best metal albums ever!! ok this review is going to be a bit biased because ive wathched these guys play for 20 years

(united furn. rules) but if these guys got on a label (major or not) that REALLY supported there bands these guys would have been HUGE!! if you never had the pleasure of seeing them live you have not lived!! i have seen a lot of bands live but no one i repeat NO ONE is as tight as this band and that is a hard thing to say after sitting behind neal peart and rush (20ft on stage)live and steely dan (front row) mettalica (10 times)plus endless more you get the picture. i mean any genre!! ive been watching (and harasing, "you guys gonna play some accept or ufo tonight") these guys for years and they just get better and better WPA is there finest album by far (but it could be because it the 1 ive been listening to longest) that i have ever heard it is the best example of the boston scene back in the mid to late 80's and there were a lot of great bands (slapshot, sam black church, seka, meliah rage (another band that got no support)and so many more i forgot to mention. (you could got to kenmore sq almost any night of the week and catch a great show) but these guys were always the kings for me. hometown pride? i dont know but 1 listen to WPA will have you hooked! no filler just killer ,wateland ,revenge and humanoid are amongst some of my faves hard to find but well worth it!!! dont forget UGLY & Suicide notes PS. GUYS WHERE IS THE DVD?
