The Peases know how to teach men and women about each other in a easily readable, humorous way. This, and their other books, should be required reading for young people before they get into a relationship. I am 63 years old and still found it very enlightening and thought provoking. I think a lot of relationships would never happen and a lot of marriages might be saved if these books were read by both partners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book!!, January 28, 2010

This review is from: Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love: Solving the Mystery of Attraction (Paperback)
As a young female, I was bought up and told that casual sex is harmless as long as it's "safe sex" with a condom, and to always pay 50:50 on dates with men. What did this do? It lead to me being used as an un-paid whore. A lot of anger, confusion and resentment followed. Casual sex is not an equal opportunity for women. It never has been. Women of this generation have been sold a lie; when it comes to sex - women just aren't like men.

Women are more physically and emotionally vulnerable to casual sex. We are wired this way by evolution. Unless you are a woman with high testosterone (less than 20% of women) you are very unlikely to enjoy casual sex, in fact you will feel very USED (like me). Men are wired to spread their seed far and wide. The more no-strings-attached sex they can get - the better - as far as they're concerned. They have nothing to lose. Promiscuous men father more children even in today's society. These are the men who's genes will dominate the human gene pool in 100 years time.

Women lose power by sleeping around. The man gets what he wants (sex) and is left to dictate the terms of the relationship, while the woman is left relatively powerless.

Our bodies and minds have not adapted to modern feminist culture. It may be great in theory to say that women are sexually liberated and should earn the same money as men, but in practice this completely upsets the natural balance of relationships between men and women.

Women still expect men to court them, pay for them, and pamper them, while they clamor into the very jobs that allow men to do so. If women do pay 50:50 on dates and give sex freely before marriage, they say they feel used and unappreciated. This is nature. We have to re-think modern culture and the mess we have created with sexual liberation, pre-marital sex, rising divorce etc etc.

The sexual revolution was supposed to liberate women, but it hardly did so at all. It just opened up a new can of worms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Research, Misleading Advice, August 2, 2010
This review is from: Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love: Solving the Mystery of Attraction (Paperback)
The good: I think they did a very decent job of fact gathering, and I am willing to believe their findings on ancestral motivation for many of the traits we look for in a significant other

Also, the advice on guarding against cheating seems decent enough. Also, I think I can agree with the advice about male/female turn ons and offs.

The bad: Their advice can be unrealistic. They tell you to make up a list of attributes you want in a mate and then to go looking for this person, and that you probably don't need to compromise. I found this section really out of place, since the rest of the book was helpful and/or well researched.

Bottom line: I enjoyed the book, I found some helpful portions, but just recommend skipping the section about finding the perfect partner.

3.0 out of 5 stars It teaches men to be a nice guy... which is what doesn't work, March 2, 2010

This review is from: Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love: Solving the Mystery of Attraction (Paperback)
I was hoping for more from this book.

But in the chapter: What women want, it talks about all the things that a "nice guy" would provide.

And in another chapter, it says women want a bad boy when it is her ovulating time but other than that, she wants a nice guy.

Then why do nice guys finish last?

The book doesn't cover this topic at all when it is a book about men and women. I hope it does.

Another thing the book says what women want from a man is "a man that can provide resources". While this may have some truth, more often than not, when I buy expensive lunch or dinner for a girl, after once or twice, she will lose interest. The other situations where I don't buy them expensive dinner or lunch, they actually don't lose interest. The same goes for buying movie tickets, and so forth, so if men think they need to demonstrate they can provide resource this way, note that the exact opposite result may occur. Again, usually when comparing a bad boy and a nice guy, the bad boy probably has less resources to provide. The nice guy is probably the one with a saving plan, a nicer job, and a bigger bank account. So why again are bad boys selected and the nice guy not? The book doesn't address this issue but simply mention women want resources or a man that can provide resources. I hope the book can provide more insight than that.

Appears to be a well researched book based more on facts than hearsay. I also liked the humor aspects they used. It helped confirm alot of things I thought about women and men and really enlightened me on many others.

1.0 out of 5 stars The book should be read by all straight and gay people. But it fails to answer the main question, which is...(read on), September 3, 2010

This review is from: Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love: Solving the Mystery of Attraction (Paperback)
The book clears the confusion about the sexual habits of a man. The book also is clear about what women want. But all that could be learned from "Men are from Mars and Women From Venus". I really liked this book, but I was disappointed that it didn't answer the main question: "Is current setup for relationship working?".

I am a relationship and health coach for gay men over 40 and for me, the book left too much to ponder. While I agree with the science from the book, we needed a more applied-science approach. The current system of relationships in the Western society is failing and we are just digging up more science to prove it - yet no one is doing anything about it.

So, while the book is great, I give it a bad review because we need more "action" as opposed to "science". So, what are you waiting for - start dating and create a relationship on your own or with my help. Visit the "Relationship Matrix" website and you will succeed in your own relationships.

Thank you,
