This review is from: Why We Sing (Audio CD)
Dionne Warwick is a true legend who in recent years has not received deserved exposure yet continues to amaze and entertain as only she can and "Why We Sing" is a return to her Gospel roots and this inspired collection is a winning one...in great voice with glorious arrangements and awesome duet partners such as Dee Dee Warrick, BeBe Winans and son David Elliott, Dionne has created a gorgeous masterpiece that lifts the spirit and satisfies the soul...Bravo Dionne & Company!!!

Why We SingAs a lifetime fan and listener of Dionne Warwick recordings, I am qualified to make this statement. Her current release, "Why We Sing", is her best original content CD of the last 20 years. It's as good a work as anything from her musical heyday in the 1960's. Every song selection is top notch allowing Dionne's vocal gifts to shine and soar as the recording star that she is!
The songs transition divinely between various tempos and moods building upon each other till the grand finale. Dionne's patented brand of vocal seductress translates with great success to her approach to Gospel. The selected material sounds as if it were written just with her in mind to interrupt. The title song is simply a standout as it is performed in harmony with her sister, Dee Dee. Anyone who's ever enjoyed a stirring Dionne performance or has a love of Gospel music should consider adding this to your collection. I'm sure you'll discover the love and sensitivity of a powerful vocalist singing praises.

Rise, Shine and Give Dionne the Glory!,

Dionne Warwick is a true visionary when it comes to music. She can interpret lyrics like no other. Her ability to convey emotion through song is unparralled. In an age of shallow and uninspired music, we have this gem known as "Why We Sing". This wonderful return to greatness, for one of the most talented female vocalists of all time, is a joy to listen to. The music is soulful, uplifting and passionate. If you are a fan of great music or are just tired of the same old thing, do yourself a favor and discover one of the best albums Dionne Warwick has ever recorded.

Fav tracks are: "I Lift My Heart", "Rise, Shine & Give God The Glory" and "The World Needs Jesus". Dionne is in GOOD voice on these tracks and it just takes me away when I listen to them on my MP3 player on the train going to work in NYC! (You need something uplifting when riding along with all the attitudes and bad energy..LOL)It's great to here David Elliott (her son) dueting and in the the backround vocals too :)
DIONNE HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!! Go 'head, lady! Keep on singin'!!!!

UPLIFTING AND EXTREMELY GRAMMY-WORTHY,

This review is from: Why We Sing (Audio CD)
After too many remake albums of her hits, along comes something so wonderfully fresh from Dionne Warwick. Fans will not be diappointed. Those who love gospel and inspirational music will share this recording with their loved ones and friends. I can hear it in fellowship halls in many a church. I wish this album was out when my 27 year old niece passed away this January. I definitely could have used it then. However, I have it now, and it is an utmost joy.
It is so great that Dionne is also singing with sister, Dee Dee on the title track, bringing her out of a long absence from the music scene. It is one of the highlights of the album. Not one song diappoints. It covers a lot of ground from the traditional gospel sound to contemporary christian balladry. All with the same purpose. To uplift and to sing praise. Dionne has certainly come home after 40 years from her last gospel effort. I can see another Grammy on her trophy shelf for a Traditional Gospel Album. She is doing what she loves most, and it can be heard. The sound is sweet. Revel in it.

The style and the elegance in Dionne Warwicks' voice is still there. Never thought she would do another gospel recording after so many years, but I'm glad she did! Versatility is still working for her. Keep on going, Dionne!

Dionne Returns,

This review is from: Why We Sing (Audio CD)
Coming off "My Freinds And Me" it was a pleasure to listen to a new cd without a "Walk on by 08" or a "Don't REmake me over (Again)" While I am not sure the world thinks of Gospel and Dionne being a match (I am sure many outside of her core fan base Remember her 1968 collection)but Dionne offers a nice collection of insperational and tradtional Gospel songs. A marked improvement from "freinds"

Dionne's most disappointing recording...,
This review is from: Why We Sing (Audio CD)
I am a big Dionne Warwick fan and looked very forward to this gospel set, yet I must admit that I consider it one of the worst and most disappointing recordings of her long and wonderful career. For starters, Dionne does not stand out on these recordings. She is over-shadowed and over-sung by loads of backing vocalists and guests. I want more of Dionne in these songs. Also for me, I do not think Dionne ever quite connects with many of the songs. They are a tad too sterile for me. I wanted to hear her really getting into the spirit, as if she were in the best church service ever, absolutely singing her heart out, which I know she can still do. I do not get that here. The recordings seem too produced and too professional to me. Yes, this album is good, but something is definiely missing, and for me, it is Dionne. Any guest vocalist could have sung her parts on this set. That should not be the case.
