Rediculously simple explanation and solution - where has it been?,

This review is from: Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts in the Foot (Paperback)
I just read through the book in one day and I found myself shaking my head in disbelief.
When I heard about the book coming out, I found a write up about the solution for mortons toe (also known as mortons foot) and tried it - a simple pad under the bone behind the big toe. I was completely blown away by the results. For the past 25 years I've had back problems, then as a runner who likes to run marathons - ankle and knee problems which inevitably led to surgery. I always felt 'off' and never had good posture. I've had six pairs of custom orthotics made over the years, tried products from mortonsfoot.com and none of them worked. Yet, this simple solution - which has been around all of these years changed everything. I went for every snake oil sales pitch and arch support out there - spending thousands of dollars and this pad which you make yourself ended up being the solution. The book goes into the research behind it, why it works and so on in VERY easy to understand language. I felt the author could have been a lot more critical of the medical community in dropping the importance of this solution. None of the doctors I saw for my feet understood what the proper treatment for this was. Why did this information suddenly vanish? I suspect it has something to do with the almighty dollar. One thing he did not address is confusion surrounding some 'mortons foot solutions' which are available over the Internet. Mortonsfoot.com, for example sells a solution for a condition called Rothbarts foot, a different foot disorder (search google) - but it is not the appropriate solution for a true mortons foot condition as their device lifts the metatarsal head AND toe, which is not correct for mortons foot. The book is a great read on the history of this solution with interesting information on Dr Morton and Janet Travell. The instructions for making the pad are clear and easy to follow. It wasn't much of an issue for me, but some people might get annoyed with all of the typos, misspellings and references to things on the wrong pages etc. I was purely interested in the content of the book and not interested in grading the grammar. There is a simple test out there to determine if you have mortons foot [...] If you have it or know someone who might - this book is all they will need to get themselves out of pain on the cheap. This information is so simple yet so great. The solution offered here works and was discovered by scientific research long long ago. The solution was even patented by Dr Morton 80 years ago. Remarkable. It works.

Finally, a book which explains away the pain!,
By Gary C (Kings Park, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts in the Foot (Paperback)
What makes this book great is that it is simply just an honest effort to help a great many people find relief from a common, but little known condition that is very curable. Dr. Schuler turns complex medical jargon into language the layman can understand, with pictures to show exactly what he is talking about, how to treat the condition and how to relieve the pain. The well thought out format and documentation is testament to the author, who is not hyping a gimmick to make himself rich or famous, but just helping people find relief from everyday pain, based on the lessons learned from a lifetime of treating this condition. I especially enjoyed the historical anecdote about the note from RFK to George McGovern that indicated that without Dr. Travell's (JFK's personal physician) treatment of this condition in JFK, he would never have been able to be president.

WHY YOU REALLY HURY by Dr. Burton Schuler is really a breath of fresh air.
I have learned so much about why my wife and I have had foot problems. I walk a lot and find myself with aching feet all the time. Now with the information I found in Dr.Schuler's book I see why I have been hurting and best of all how to avoid the pain. Ma lot of pain. I also liked the way Dr. Schuler explains the problems in layman's terms and not like other medical books I have read where they talk over the average persons head. The history aspect of the book was also very entertaining. I really give this book 5 Stars.

Finally an answer,
This review is from: Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts in the Foot (Paperback)
Dr. Schuler's simple solution to six years of pain and frustration is much appreciated. In sharing his insights with the a world of medicine far more concerned with keeping patients rather than curing ailments, it is not hard to see why he is rejected by many of his peers. I applaud his committment to helping people like me to finally experience some relief. I highly recommend his book to doctors and patients alike.

This is a great book. I have read it from cover to cover and it had helped me a lot in not only in my walking but also in my pain management. My knees still hurts but after many months of them both being hurt including my hips, I am now slowly getting relief at last with the installation of the pad on my Morton toe. It hurts during the first two weeks but after that I am slowly getting back to my normal walking. You see I had an operation on my left middle toe and that prevented me from walking properly in fear that I may dislocate my operated bone there. I do not believe in coincidence but I believe that the big boy above agrees with me that I have had enough pain and directed me to this book.

I was fortunate enough to read a newspaper article in our local paper in the Health section a couple of months ago directing me to this book. I can not believe this information has been missed by so many doctors or they choose not to offer the treatment. I immediately made an appointment with Dr Schuler in Panama City, FL. There I purchased the book and had my first visit. The book goes into detail information that you can try yourself if you are outside the area and I am sure have great results. In the past I have have gone to doctors practicing medicine in this field because of heel problems. This is the first time I had relief immediately - and without any shots. I am able to walk on my exercise plan without pain. Dr Schuler is the best - the book is an easy read - you won't be sorry if you purchase this. Being pain free in my feet is worth everything - to think I could have missed this information about Morton's Toe and still be limping around and suffering much pain. I truly appreciate his expertise in this area and I have told him in person which is the best part. Bless you Dr Schuler!

A Simple, Effective Solution for Me,
By Michelle M-Z (Pahoa, HI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts in the Foot (Paperback)
I have had Fibromyalgia most of my life, so I am well aware of all the scams out there promising complete, immediate pain relief. I recently started a job where I was standing all day, and developed some really bad lower back pain. A friend referred me to this book after I determined I had a "Morton's Toe." I figured "What the heck, I'll try this toe pad thing. I'll only be out a couple of bucks if it doesn't work." Boy, what a surprise! The very first day I wore the toe pads, my pain was about 80% gone and has stayed that way ever since! I will recommend this book to everyone I know with chronic pain! Dr. Schuler is excellent at putting complicated medical information into easy to understand terms for regular people. If it doesn't work for you, it could work for someone you know, so this book is worth every penny!

Wonderful therapy for those afflicted with morton's toe,
This review is from: Why You Really Hurt: It All Starts in the Foot (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book, deeply researched, based on solid empirical evidence, and wonderfully written. Dr. Burton S. Schuler is the pre-eminent expert in the field of morton's toe - where the first toe and metatarsal bone is shorter than the second toe and metatarsal bone - and how if can affect you whole body in negative ways. He also provides a very simple solution that is cheap and effective. This is also an especially useful book for high-mileage runners with the condition, and can help stop the late stage hperpronation of the big toe upon footstrike, which makes effective toe off difficult, and puts all the pressure on the second metatarsal. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
