I'm curious if anyone knows why the new blu-ray disc is fifty dollars? I don't see anything about new extras that aren't on other DVD releases. I don't see anything about it being remastered.

Is there something not listed about the release?

It's misleading -- that's not Amazon's price. The Blu-ray actually appears to have gone out of print (after only, what, a year or so??), and once you get to the actual product detail page you can see that it's being sold by a third party and "fulfilled" through Amazon.

I just played the blu-ray and it froze once halfway through the movie. I had to skip a scene to get it to play again. I played the movie on another blu-ray player and it froze again on the same spot. I inspected the disc and did not see any marks or foreign items on it. There must a a defect on the mastering of the disc is why they' might be pulling it off the market so they can fix the defect.

You must have a defective Blu-Ray disk or a defective Blu-Ray player. I have no problems playing mine on Sony Playstation. All 3 versions of The Music Man are no longer produced. High price typically represents high demand. But you knew that. Every high school and community theatre in the country continues to put on this play, and this film represents the quinticential research piece for the director, cast, stage hands, music & dance coordinators. Since you won't find a videotape of the original Broadway production, nor even the Broadway revival starring Craig Bierko and directed by Susan Stroman, this is as good as you'll ever get, thus the high demand & price.

Amazon is not even selling the blu-ray copy of "The Music Man" anymore - that's why it's so expensive. You only can get it from third parties. That's supply and demand. When the supply is not there and the demand is high that pushes the prices much higher. It's simple economics. I had the special edition of "The Music Man" and it played fine. I get the blu-ray copy and it freezes halfway through the film. I play it again on another player and it freezes at the same spot. What gives? I think the movie is being pulled to be remastered.
