Eco-Friendly
Eco-Friendly Solution to Everyday Air Conditioning

The environmentally friendly ARC-10WB is CFC free and designed for minimal energy consumption. This efficient air conditioner uses ozone-safe R-410A refrigerant and lead-free, RoHS-compliant components.

Cools Small Rooms with Clean, Fresh Air

With 10,000 Btus, this compact-yet-robust unit cools spaces up to 300 square feet with average ambient room conditions. Use it in smaller indoor spaces, such as bedrooms, classrooms, and garages or workshops.

Easy to Transport from Room to Room

Outfitted with four multidirectional casters, the unit can be easily wheeled between rooms without being lifted or carried. The portable, compact unit is 28 by 17 by 13.6 inches (H x W x D).

Self-Evaporative System Controls Condensation

The self-evaporating system produces cool, clean air by minimizing condensation and recycling moisture drawn during the cooling process. The system prevents excess condensation from accumulating under average ambient conditions, making the unit suitable for continuous, everyday use. This unit also comes with a direct-drain option for continuous operation without excess accumulation of condensation.

Three Operational Modes Include Fan and Dehumidifier

The unit offers three modes: cooling, dehumidifying, and fan. Cooling mode cools and dehumidifies the room. To dehumidify without cooling, choose the dehumidifying option. Fan mode circulates air in the room and includes four fan speeds to choose from.

The unit has a dehumidifying capacity of 55 pints per day and an adjustable digital thermostat range of 62 degrees F to 88 degrees F.

Non-Permanent, Easy-to-Install Venting Kit

The easy-install kit includes a window slide bar that fits in standard windows up to 38 inches wide. The slide bar adjusts vertically or horizontally. The kit also includes an extendable exhaust hose up to 48 inches and two adapters for securing the hose to the unit and the window slide bar.

The ARC-10WB is designed for non-permanent venting through a window, though it can be custom modified to fit into wall openings or dropped ceilings.

Whynter ARC-10WB 10,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner

An advanced anti-bacterial silver ion filter keeps the cooled air cleaner and fresher. View larger.

Simple Control Panel and Convenient Remote

The control panel features an LED display and simple selections, including a mode selection button, up/down temperature adjustments, and fan speed selection. Program the unit to activate or shut off at preset times with the 24-hour timer. An included remote control puts the full set of controls at your fingertips.

Washable Antibacterial Silver Ion Filter

The included antibacterial silver ion filter helps keep cooled air fresh and clean. The washable air filter removes large particles such as dust, pet hair, and dander. The silver ion on the filter kills bacteria in the air and controls the growth of microbes, such as virus, fungi and spores. To clean the filter, simply slide it out of the unit and rinse it under warm water.

Outfitted with Auto-Restart and Safety Features

During power outages, the auto-restart function will automatically restart the unit at its previous setting. This unit is also supplied with a Leakage Current Detection and Interruption (LCDI) plug, which reduces the risk of fire due to arcing faults in the power supply cord.

What's in the Box

Whynter ARC-10WB 10,000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner, exhaust hose, window venting kit, remote control, two-in-one pre-filter and silver ion filter, drain hose, and user manual.

This has been a truly terrible summer in New York City. Most of July was boiling hot and near-tropical humid. My ancient window air conditioner had been confiscated by my landlord, at the request of the NYC fire department, during the winter, because the bedroom window where it was located was on a fire escape. I didn't think much about it at the time because, after all, it was WINTER. But then, the blazing heat rolled around, and I was a little leery about purchasing a portable air conditioner -- the only kind that wouldn't violate the nothing-in-windows-on-a-fire-escape rule -- for several reasons. First, I had heard that they were less efficient than window models. Because of this, I had no realistic idea of how many BTU's I would need to cool my 10 X 12 foot bedroom. Additionally, I was nervous about how a standing air conditioner would look in my room, and how much space it would take up. Finally, after broiling in the city for several weeks, checking out the big box stores' offerings, and doing a ton of research, I settled on the Whynter ARC 10WB portable. It has been an absolute blessing. It has tamed the disgustingness of a New York City summer, and allowed me to sleep normally again. It has a variety of modes in which it can be used, including standard AC operation, fan mode, and dehumidifier mode. The AC mode is still going fairly regularly, because the wet heat has continued pretty steadily, even into the end of August. But on the rare days when it lets up for a while, the fan is more than sufficient to keep me cool. The unit is neatly designed, mostly white, and blends in nicely with my white walls. Oddly enough, it takes up substantially less space than the two standing fans I had been using to beat the heat before the Whynter arrived.Read more ›

Gotta say, this item is awesome. Freezes any room in a matter of minutes. It is heavy though, which is because of the BTU rating, but worth it. The evaporator took care of all condensation, so no tank to drain which is also a plus.

We needed a small air condition unit for a small space that the central house a/c didn't sufficiently cool. We comparison shopped and decided on the Whynter ARC-10WB and it works beyond expectations. We like the fact that it doesn't have a drip pan that needs monitoring/emptying. Overall, we are extremely pleased with this unit.

1st ARC-10WB had to be sent back, as it came with 2 broken casters. Amazon Refund/Replace Chat sent the replacement unit on 2 day shipping, though I received it the next business day.
UPDATE 5/20/14: Got our 1st hot day/night. A/C is actually quieter than either my dead 8,500 Btu or 12yo 6,000 Btu window A/C's. Was set it at 66F. and while in bed I changed it to 68F. + sleep mode [raises temp. 2F. after 30", then repeats again in 30" raising the temp 2F. more] with the remote. Slept wonderful, actually feel refreshed this morning, which is unusually for me.
The air coming out is so cold that our Rottweiler 'Pillow Partner' moved away from the air flow to another section of our bed.
The bedroom I'm using this in is 11'x18.75'=206 sq. ft. There are 2 chest-height windows that have thermal-lined floor length drapes. Since the exhaust hose is so short [see #4], the Unit sits closer to the drapes than I planned. I draped 1 insulated drape panel over 95% of the exhaust hose, making sure the drape was not blocking any vents nor being pulled into the vents from the suction. When I checked the Unit's heat discharge from the exhaust hose there was hardly any. I know it will be even better after purchasing Thermalogic Ultimate Window Liner (UPDATE 7/10/2014: Work's great! Heat difference, between the front and back of the running Unit is maybe 2F.). I'd been planning on buying a room darkener of some type anyway and with the kit I cannot use a roller blind or room shutters. I was worried the window screen would block the air outflow but there is no problem.

BEFORE ANYTHING: Place the box on its side. Slide-off the 2 packing straps. Remove the bottom piece of cardboard [box is made in 2 pieces so you don't need a box cutter] and check the wheel casters.

Ok, I have a 3500sq ft house with 3 ac units..the upstairs is about 450sq ft but the unit cannot keep up hence this product...have had it over 1month...running it "with" the main unit makes the room very comfortable..i.e. with both units running this unit can lower the temp 4-6 degrees...its only rated for 300ish sq ft but that didn't deter me since I had the other main ac...also customer support ROCKED when I called....shipping (amazon prime) was great...also, I live in MISSISSIPPI (again HUMID/HOT)..have not had to drain the unit..it evaporates...only negative...the window kit could be modified....its an a+ unit.

This was one of the few portable indoor units that I could find that had mostly good reviews...so I decided to pay a little extra for a 10k btu unit and grab it. For the year or so I've had it, I've been very happy with it. It blows cold air fast, cools my room down well (12'x12'), and I haven't even had to empty anything. I've noticed the fan sputter a bit lately, but it seemed to be temporary and of no real consequence. I'm not sure I could recommend it for a much bigger room though. It would work great if it was blowing on you, but for something like living rooms it might have to run hard for long periods of time.
It is loud, but, show me an AC that isn't. The sound mostly goes away when I wear headphones or turn up my speakers though, so meh!
Actually I LOVE sleeping to the AC sound. It soothes me heheh. If you must have it totally quiet while you sleep, just get a fan or something and WD-40 it to your heart's content. I'd MUCH rather have the noise than the Texas heat while I snooze!
