4.0 out of 5 stars Great product, great price
Ordered this product from Amazon when it returned to stock -- price for product with prime shipping (free) plus add-on overnight shipping was under $200.00. Arrived before noon the next day. A great deal.

Unpacked and set-up in family room -- took 30 minutes to cool to 58 for red wine (I have a 16-bottle unit that has my whites stored). I've had the unit for...

2.0 out of 5 stars Look around some more....
I bought this on ~July 15, 2011. For first few weeks or so it cooled great. Then temperature began to fluctuate between 54 degrees and 70 degrees. I read manual which states room temperature must be 77 degrees or less for unit to cool properly. So, I knew room may have gotten warmer than that so I decided to wait a few weeks for cooler weather to arrive. For past several...

I've had the unit for four days and it's doing what it should. No sound and temperature on display verified with thermometer placed in unit for two days.

A great thing about the product is that if you would like to upgrade the look of the unit with wood shelves they are available for separate purchase on Amazon. As previous reviewer, I think it looks nice as is once the wine bottles are loaded.

Please note that the included instruction book says to level unit that all legs adjust -- however, only the leg under the hinge adjusts (not really a problem).

The only "complaint" with the unit is that, like all the other units I've read about, it does not hold 28 bottles if your collection includes any pinot-size bottles. The unit has slots for the shelving at other levels which is helpful to adjust, but in the end I have taken out one shelf (half of my wines are in pinot-style bottles). I have a few small bottles that I've been able to add on top of the pinot. I would say that even with the lower capacity this is still a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Affordable and functional, October 1, 2010
This review is from: Whynter WC28S SNO 28 Bottle Wine Cooler, Platinum with Lock (Kitchen)
We purchased the Whynter 28 bottle wine cooler to start our small mid-range collection. From what I have gathered, the no-vibration thermoelectric wine coolers are much more gentle on your wine and easily hit the required temp range. The Whynter unit appeared to be a nice looking unit and had the capacity we were looking for.

We received the product in a much quicker timeframe than we expected. It was a no fuss setup and looked really high-end when we had our bottles in the unit. Couldn't be happier on the price too. Depending on where you situate the unit, it takes less than 25-30 mins to get the internal temperature to an ideal 58F for my reds. The door lock was also a nice bonus, especially with teens at home =)

Very pleased with everything about this purchase. Thanks again for a great shopping experience.

Fast exchange after first one was damaged. All paper work was taken care of by Amazon, great. Cooler is just what we were looking for. Looks super next to our bar in living room. Worth the price and than some, good value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works beautifully for a nice price, July 31, 2011

The wife got this for me on a whim. I wanted a small wine cooler that I didn't have to worry too much about. This fit the bill. Thermoelectrics are well worth it in my opinion. I refuse to spend mega bucks on a wine cooler when all I want is something that will keep my small starter collection in fine drinking condition. Nice exterior, the door which is not steel, looks great anyway. Cools down to around high 40's which is what I want. This is not fancy but it does what it's supposed to. If you want the works, go buy a U-line or Liebherr. I'm personally satisfied with this.

Clean look. Quiet, but it emits a slight "burn" smell when cooling. Temperature seems accurate. I set the wine temp to 13 C. I'll buy another and make a table around them. It's been two months, I'll wait two more based on the other reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very affordable entry level unit, January 4, 2012

This is what I would call a fancy starter wine cooler. Ideal for thermoelectric enthusiast. It easily gets your wines to 10-15 degrees as preferred. Has very decent storage capacity and the shelving is removable as needed. It's not stainless steel but looks better than my previous stainless steel unit. The temperature indicator is accurate and the unit chills fast. Haven't had any need for the lock on the door but I can imagine it would be useful on occasion. It's worked just fine since for me and based on all features and price, I would recommend it.

For past several weeks, room temperature has been less than 75 degrees. Still fluctuates but now between 54 degrees and 66 degrees. Please note that I do not open door more than once every couple of days, and there is adequate room on all sides of unit (these are the two things the manual claims can cause the problem). I called company during business hours hoping to troubleshoot problem further. I left message on answer machine, but my call was never returned. Tried a second time with same result. Then I decided to read the "1 year warranty." First, unit must be shipped back in original packaging. Who holds on to packaging material for a year? Second, they only pay freight for first 2 months, then you must pay for shipping. Bottom Line: Unit is flawed, company is non-responsive, and warranty is really for 2 months. I'll probably pitch it,and buy something different. I give it 2 stars because it at least keeps wine below room temperature.

On 11/15/10 I purchased the Whyntner WC28S Sno 28. It worked for exactly 90 days. Unfoturnately we threw away the box at day 60. We called Whynter and while they will "honor the one year warranty" they won't pay for boxing the refigerator and they won't pay for the shipping even though the product is defective. Amazon may be able to get bulk rates to ship it to consumers but on our end the shipping alone was quoted at $120 plus the special boxing that Whynter wanted which is a special box in a box. Bottom line it would have cost $180 to ship the piece of crap back to them. The warranty is a joke. when the unit stopped working the temprature inside the unit was hotter than the outside. Avoid this company. The products are not well made.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nah, skip this one, July 27, 2011
This review is from: Whynter WC28S SNO 28 Bottle Wine Cooler, Platinum with Lock (Kitchen)
I bought this from Costco online for about two hundred shipped. I've had it for four months and while I was initially impressed, the temperature sensor has gone out. When I open the door to grab a bottle, the temperature reading will go crazy, and when I close it, it sometimes goes back to normal, sometimes gives me a flashing "EL", and sometimes it will give a low temperature, between 10 and 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I have to keep reopening and closing the door, or the unit will not stay cool. The warranty is a joke, too, lasting one year - except after two months you have to pay for shipping to send it back to Whynter. I've noticed that Costco has dropped this item from inventory. Gonna try my luck with a Vinotemp next..
