Very well executed, great flow,

I have been in the cellular industry for 18 years and I find this book to be one of the best introductions to not only WiMAX, but most things wireless as well. As many of us who rely on tech books know, its not how much material you can throw at the reader, its how you present it, mostly in terms of the order or the flow of the material such that there is a logical order in the material. Too many authors produce "desk top references" that are useless without an index. This seemingly "quickie" of a book is really more of a masterpiece in how it presents the reader with what they need to know in the order in which they need to know it to understand the subject matter.
Well done! A real 5 star publication.

The "everyman's guide" to WiMAX,
By Pokemon48 (Atlanta, Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews

I work for a satellite TV company that is dabbling in WiMAX. We found this pub to be very helpful in bringing along a lot of people fast in the basic concepts of WiMAX. Believe you me, its a real industrial sociology challenge to get a whole organization onboard with a new technology. This book, given its 50+ illustrations, really helped us train our folks real fast in WiMAX. I don't know this for fact, but I'm assuming it was real helpful to our overseas offices in getting non-english speakers up to speed quick as well.

Business persons guide to WiMAX,

I work for a very large cell phone company here in Kansas and this book has really helped us educate investors on the potential impact of WiMAX on the telecommunications industry. The book has a series of very basic diagrams that helped us get our points across to the investment community.
The book is especially helpful in describing WiMAX VoIP, WiMAX IPTV, IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS), WiMAX mobile TV, WiMAX as a T1 substitute, MIMO, AAS, ARPU, etc. Our team gives this book the 5 star rating it so richly deserves.

Non technical and not a good executive overview,

First let's get the facts right. The book can easily be compressed in 10 pages. The graphics are enormous and not very well done. On many of them there are no units on the axes.
In terms of technology there nothing technical. There is a poor attempt to describe some telco terms but the explanation is for 3rd grades. If it was an attempt to be an executive overview - it was not done well either.

This is more of a sales & marketing white paper than a deep technical review, but that is exactly what it's marketed as. With that in mind, this is a great top level review of the topic, and a fine primer for anyone just getting started, or who just needs to understand the high level concepts.

Luckily my paper shredder handles 56 pages in a single pass,
By Always a Critic "apa" (Pittsburgh, PA USA) - See all my reviews

This is little more than a sales pamphlet and a poorly written one at that. It provides a much "highlighted" view of WiMAX and downplays - or just blatantly ignores by omission - the downside and obstacles of this technology. What I find particularly irritating is how the author poses "technical objections" to WiMAX and then proceeds to circumvent any true understanding of the subject by introducing largely irrelevant solutions, some not even associated with WiMAX as a technology itself. This pamphlet would make a good - free - insert for a newspaper or could be handed out for entertainment purposes for people with flight delays, not exceeding one hour. After that, at least it is recyclable.

Very basic high level pamphlet,
By Siggi Bjarnason "Siggi" (Kirkland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: WiMAX in 50 Pages (Paperback)
While I was expecting certain high level I was suprised by how high level and basic this book was. This is probably good for non technical person that wants a very high level explanation. I was hoping for a high level technical explanation and was disappointed with the executive summary this book provided.

Incredibly complete coverage by well credentialed author, takes you from very basic through an easy understanding of how, why, and how much. The trip is well ordered and easily understood thanks to the author's grasp of subject and his use of loaded words. After having read this book you are left with good basic understanding of all wireless networks and the ability to ask your own questions.
I bought 4 Wimax books on the same day and 2 of them are for deployment of networks at a senior engineer's level. A great help to me and perfect for my needs!

This is a great book to read in order to get a decent amount of information in a short amount of time. It goes over the basics of WiMAX in a manner which is easy to understand, even for those without a lot of technological knowledge.
