1.0 out of 5 stars Dont Publish a Book that has not been Edited for Typos and Grammatical Errors
One would think that if someone bothered to publish a book, they could at least hire a student to read it through and correct basic typos and grade school level grammatical errors. These are on almost every page. This is pathetic!

Apart from that, for a 10,000 foot level overview of the technology, this book does the job. Having now read it, I would not...

This review is from: WiMax Explained; System Fundamentals (Paperback)
I needed to get up to speed on WiMax and quick. I bought a few books but this one was clearly the best. It's a straight forward "explaination" of WiMax starting with "What is WiMax" to Service Flows.

It starts with technical information that I already understood and clearly added/combined/modified technical details to develop a logical and technical explaination of what WiMax. It's at the right technical level. It stops short of all the protocol details (however many of those are existing and I know them) that bogs down a lot of technical books. There's nothing worse than pay $50 for a book and getting 20 pages of overview and then 150 of standards which I could have gotten for free online.

This book definately gave me the right technical information sprinkled with illustrations that were SIMPLE to understand. The figures are clear and relate directly to the explainations. It saved me a lot of time by getting me up to speed quick so I now have a good understanding of the WiMax system.

One more praise for this book...The index is really well done. I'm not sure what it is, but when referring back to this book for information when I'm working, I find it easily in the index. They must be doing something right. Most technical books have me just flipping through the book to find information becuase the index doesn't help get you to the specific item you need.

Apart from that, for a 10,000 foot level overview of the technology, this book does the job. Having now read it, I would not buy it given another choice, as it does not provide enough technical detail, and does not tie the various parts of the technology discussion together sufficiently.

5.0 out of 5 stars WiMax explained well at the system level, January 22, 2008
This review is from: WiMax Explained; System Fundamentals (Paperback)
This book is a good explanation of WiMax for a technical person new to the technology that appreciates a clear and crisp description of a broad set of technical WiMax topics, or for a non-technical person needing to understand the WiMax technology to a good level of detail after a quick read. I would not recommend it for someone looking for WiMax specifications in detail for protocol, circuit or product design (I would suggest going to the IEEE specification for that or email me for recommendations). But for anyone becoming involved in WiMax, particularly at a system, networking, deployment, or operations level, this book provides good solid information. The illustrations I found to be good for this level, and the information is timely. I am happy with my purchase and at this price it has met my current needs and expectations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Super for Sneak Preview, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: WiMax Explained; System Fundamentals (Paperback)
The thing that strikes about this book is how easily , it is written. It gives like an almost "sneak preview" into the various topics of WIMAX. Yes ,people who are looking for topics more specifically, are at a disadvantage. The book , does not include the depth in Mac Management Messages, but i could live with that, which more than grazes other "several topics" .I would say the book offers what it claims " Wimax Explained is a perfect companion for businessman and Engineer looking for reference to WIMX AND 802.16". I would want to give it 4.5 for that. Must buy book for people who want to brush up and want to step into Wimax

1.0 out of 5 stars Really dreadful, June 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This morning I purchased "WiMax Eplained..." in hopes that it would provide a much-needed overview of the practical application of WiMax technology "in the wild". Unfortunately, the text leaves a lot to be desired; plagued by inconsistency, there seem to be some concept illustrated that the author just doesn't understand. Like some of the other reviewers have said, grammatical errors are everywhere, making the text occasionally difficult to read...

... all that could be easily ignored if the text were a valuable resource or provided information that was applicable to real-life. Unfortunately, after 96 pages, I know nothing more about WiMax technology than what I read on Wikipedia.

Ultimately, this is a failure of a book that you should avoid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Painfully basic and filled with grammatical errors, October 16, 2007
This review is from: WiMax Explained; System Fundamentals (Paperback)
This book is written as if for someone that has no communications experience and is filled with grammatical errors. It appears it has not been proof read. The figures are almost laughable and of little to no use. Save your money, perform a one minute google search and you will be $15.00 ahead.
