Book Description

September 21, 2007 1603320164 978-1603320160
The Ultimate Reference & Learning Guide for the Beginner Wiccan In depth and current overview of the 1st Degree Studies A comprehensive guide for those people who are new to the Wiccan Way! Benson's book discusses what Wicca is and isn't, the five elements, the Wheel of the Year, Magick and spell crafting, ethics, philosophy, scrying, tarot, divination, tools, herbs, gems, and celebration of Wiccan holydays. She touches also on the different types of Wicca, the influence of Eastern ways on Wicca, and the ways in which Christians-and followers of other religions-have viewed this peaceful and oft-misunderstood way of life throughout the ages. The author also discusses the relative merits of practicing alone or with others, and what to expect should the novice attempt to join a coven. The complete beginner will be introduced to what it means to be a Wiccan, and what there is to gain from learning the ways of the ancients. Other topics included in this guide are: . Wiccan Names . Sabbats . Rituals . Tea Leaf Reading . Priesthood . Why people choose this path and much more!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly edited December 22, 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Sorry, but the substandard editing was a distraction and made the book less than worthwhile to me. It is full of misspellings, incorrect punctuation, repeated or skipped words throughout, and in one section Water is referred to as East when it's called West everyplace else! I couldn't appreciate the information because of this! I wish I'd had the chance to "Look Inside" before purchasing but it wasn't available.

2.0 out of 5 stars Teenybopper wannabes? September 18, 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
This book should be called "Wicca for teenybopper wannabes". Not Wicca 101. There is nothing "101" about it. It merely explains what witches do, instead of what Wicca is, or why Wicca is. It is not for serious practitioners. So if you want real knowledge of Wicca, you should look elsewhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy work February 23, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is one of the sloppiest books on Wicca I have seen in a long time. It almost seems like she just ripped pages out of "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" and other sloppy works and slapped it together to make this. The only thing I found of use is a section on herbs, but the $ of the book compared to the knowledge is just not worth it. If you want a good book on Beginning Wicca, then I suggest you look up Scott Cunningham. If you are wanting something a bit more advanced than a beginners book, look into Deborah Lipp. River Higginbotham and Joyce Higginbotham's books are nicely written as well and offer a lot of practical advice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read February 16, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I found the book to be interesting and the concept to it was a good one. That said my copy held a number of editing issues. I guess that it was. I know a little about Wicca and I still was a bit perplexed by what the author was trying to say at times. I believe this was mostly an edit problem and not a bad author. As there were parts to the book that were thorough and very well written. Others with a interest and no knowledge may either walk away from the book because of its flaws or not. It's hard to guess what some one else is thinking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for a beginner in Wicca June 30, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
There are too many words to say How I love this book, its one of my favorites and I highly recommend it for a beginner in the path of wicca, it goes through everything in an easy way to follow..and the best part its not preachy as I found some other books.. its simple , easy and just a good read all in all, and the best part it is a book you will always go back to for a refresher.. I love this book so much I would give it to a fellow wicca friend if I didn't already bind it to my own Book of Shadows.

point being if your new to wicca , get this book. well worth the money..
~ blessed be

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very good June 11, 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is the 4th Kristina Benson book I bought...I returned the other 3 because they were not very good and this falls into that same category. A very very basic book. Actually lower than basic. I will never purchase another one of her books. Considering the price of the book, you would think it would be a lot more detailed...I have gotten free Kindle books that were more detailed then any of her books. If you are looking for a detailed book on Wicca, this is not the book for you.

It was a good starter book on wicca, however some parts not explained very well, but it made me realize who I am and encouraged me to seek more information through other authors.
