Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Like any great teacher, Raven Grimassi talks about why magick works, as well as how to do it right. He focuses on the mystery tradition of witchcraft, digging into the earliest roots of this ancient religion. Wiccan Magick covers a lot of ground in a short book, and in the hands of a less competent author could have become a mere glossary of the subject, but Grimassi does a wonderful job of fitting the pieces together into a remarkably detailed whole, working from general concepts like the history of witchcraft to specifics like the inherent magical properties of herbs and crystals, and finally delving into the primal forces that empower ritual magic. What Grimassi has created isn't necessarily a handbook to be memorized, but a book that helps revitalize the spiritual forces behind Wiccan rituals through a better understanding of the fundamentals of the tradition. --Brian Patterson

From the Publisher

Many years ago, when Wicca was just starting to become popular in this country, the magick of the system was based on doing rites and ceremonies, and working with energy. I know this because I was there.

Over the years, more and more folk magicks have been added to Wicca. In Wiccan Magick, Raven Grimassi shows that many of these folk magicks have been gathered from various regions in Europe that are culturally unrelated or disconnected, resulting in inconsistent magickal results.

In many cases, folk magick is simply a collection of fragmented spells and concepts because the actual spells behind them were kept secret from the observers. You can bring back the power and spirituality of Wiccan magick with the Formula Magick spells, techniques, and methods in this book.

Wiccan Magick reveals secrets which were either hidden in numerous occult books, or simply never before assembled and made clear. You'll learn the inner secrets of working with herbs and stones, working with energy and on the astral plane, and much more. Does it require a bit more work, effort, and understanding? Absolutely. But the results can be so powerful and strong that they may surprise even you.

Chances are you've spent a lot of time learning correspondences, working with herbs, and so forth. Isn't it worth your while to learn a bit more that can take all of the magick you've learned and make it stronger and more powerful?

Wiccan Magick shows you how to access the full power and potential of magick, an invaluable tool in the continuing quest of the spirit.

More About the Author

I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to an Italian immigrant who married an American soldier at the close of World War II. My earliest training was in what I call a "peasant witchcraft" tradition, which consisted of Witchcraft and Folk Magic practices of Old Italy. Over the past four decades I have been a practitioner of several Witchcraft and Wiccan traditions. At present I am the directing Elder of the Ash, Birch & Willow tradition, which is a system of "Old Ways Witchcraft" not originating from any single region of Europe, but instead embracing what is held in common among many lands.

I currently have over 14 books in print and write on the topics of Witchcraft, Wicca and Magic. Many people seem to peg me as an author on Italian Witchcraft exclusively, but in fact only two of my books are about that specific subject. The primary focus of my work is about pre-Christian European beliefs and practices that appear in contemporary systems. In doing so I look to the commonalities of European traditions that appear in various regions instead of just one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fluff Free!!, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Wiccan Magick: Inner Teachings of the Craft (Paperback)
This is one of the few books on Wicca today that does not contain the typical nonsense and fluff so prevalent in the contemporary market. Instead it contains many time-proven techniques and concepts actually used in the Craft, and is therefore a reliable text on the theory and practice of magick.

Wiccan Magick explores the principles of formula magick and explains how and why magick actually works. It provides the reader with the knowledge of how to make magickal liquids for spell casting and how to create one's own spells and other magickal workings. The book further deals with folk magick, mineral magick, herbs, and how to work with the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. In addition Wiccan Magick promotes the ethics of using magick and demonstrates that magick is not a bunch of hocus pocus, but is instead an understanding of how to work with the forces of Nature and the powers of the human mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking, May 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Wiccan Magick: Inner Teachings of the Craft (Paperback)
This book is an insightful and thought-provoking work. It deals with sifting through the fluff and getting down to understanding how and why magick really works. Although the book does require some concentration, anyone of average intelligence should not be confused by the teachings revealed in this excellent and refreshing work on magick.

This review is from: Wiccan Magick: Inner Teachings of the Craft (Paperback)
This book totally blew me out of the water. Far more in-depth than any other book I've read on the subject. Grimassi is now my favorite author. I would recommend it for any one who would like to get more in tune with the mysteries of the craft.
