Book Description

Center Point Platinum Mystery (Large Print) March 2009
ONE BY ONE, THEY’LL DIE... Twenty years ago, wild child Jessie Brentwood vanished from St. Elizabeth’s high school. Most in Jessie’s tight circle of friends believed she simply ran away. Few suspected that Jessie was hiding a shocking secret — one that brought her into the crosshairs of a vicious killer... UNTIL THERE’S NO ONE LEFT... Two decades pass before a body is unearthed on school grounds and Jessie’s old friends reunite to talk. Most are sure that the body is Jessie’s, that the mystery of what happened to her has finally been solved. But soon, Jessie’s friends each begin to die in horrible, freak accidents that defy explanation... BUT HER... Becca Sutcliff has been haunted for years by unsettling visions of Jessie, certain her friend met with a grisly end. Now the latest deaths have her rattled. Becca can sense that an evil force is shadowing her too, waiting for just the right moment to strike. She feels like she’s going crazy. Is it all a coincidence — or has Jessie’s killer finally returned to finish what was started all those years ago?

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. Bestselling suspense author Jackson (Left to Die) pairs with mystery author Bush (Ultra Violet) to pen a chilling tale. Jessie Brentwood was a student at St. Elizabeth's School in Oregon when she vanished 20 years ago. Still haunted by her disappearance, Det. Mac McNally reopens the case when bones believed to be Jessie's are discovered at the old school. Mac refocuses his investigation on Jessie's friends, especially Hudson Walker, Jessie's former boyfriend. The suspense escalates as Jessie's friends seem haunted by her presence, especially Becca Sutcliff, a woman hoping to rekindle her former romance with Hudson. Becca's frequent and terrifying visions are amplified as, one by one, Jessie's friends become victims of a vicious stalker. Swift pacing and an intriguing plot make this a first-rate supernatural thriller. (Feb.)

1.0 out of 5 stars too many loose ends...., April 1, 2009
By

I was very disappointed in this novel. It started out interesting but by the end left too many loose ends and many of the "solutions" just didn't make sense. It seemed the authors started with a good idea and then got lost along the way and couldn't get it together to create a plausible ending. The end was particularly bad as the real "mystery" was not solved. This was obviously a marketing tactic to get readers to buy the next book. My advice - Pass on this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wasted paper, February 23, 2009

This book should have been 100 pages shorter. The first 100 pages were so repetitious I almost gave up.

Not a very interesting/believable story.

And you know how in some books you really get to know the characters and feel what they feel, and care what happens to them? Well that never happens with this book.

This is the first (and last) book I have read by Lisa Jackson.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Jackson's finest, February 14, 2009
By
Enjoying Lisa Jackson's other books, I settled down for a good evening read and was very disappointed. The character motivations were never fully realized and plotting was weak. In fact, the only part of this book that really worked well was the romance. Everyone can have an "off" book, so will keep the faith Jackson will soon be back to her best.
