4.0 out of 5 stars Various, but derivative
This collection reminds me of tunes from the fifties into the seventies. There's nothing here that would make me turn my head, but the album is overall enjoyable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only two work here
There are only two songs on this sampler album that stand out for me. "Living in the Shadows" By the Beat Tornados and "Nobody" by the Woggles. The Beat Tornados evoke a Rockabilly, surferesque feeling ala Reverend Horton Heat and the Woggles is a cute mix of 60's laid back dance and twist. The other songs just don't do it for me.

This collection did exacly what it was meant to do. Get me to buy music from the artists on it. If you like alternative/new music or have every listened to Little Stevens weekly radio program, you'll love this. If not, I suggest you give it a try anyways

4.0 out of 5 stars Not that wicked, but very cool, October 13, 2010

This is a terrific sampler of several bands from the "Underground Garage" genre. If you like retro rock and pop, with some jangle and surf sound, this is one to listen to with the car's top down.

Thanks, Little Steven!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's fairly good, July 16, 2010

I listened to the preview of the sampler and most of the songs sounded pretty good and they were. I really enjoy 1, 2, 4, and 5. The rest of the sampler just didn't resonate with me. The other songs are alright (minus the last one, I just really couldn't get into it and deleted it), but I really think the first few are the best. It is a great sampler in the way that the music is quite different from each other and it's free, so you really can't beat that. I suggest listening to the preview of the songs and then downloading it. Since it's free, if you don't like it all, it's not a big deal having to delete a few songs.

This is a great album. The production values are high, and the musicianship is outstanding. It is like a trip back to the mid sixties. The influence of groups like The Shirelles, the Buffalo Springfield, The Rolling Stones, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Sam the Sham come through, intentional or otherwise. What's fun is listening and thinking who this sounds like.
