4.0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise
I am an devoted Lisa Jackson fan and have read all of her romantic suspense novels. When Wicked Game came out and I realized she co-authored the book with her sister, I did not immediately rush and buy the book as I usually do not care for books written by more than one author. When I read the reviews of the book on amazon (many were bad), I really did not want to read...

1.0 out of 5 stars too many loose ends....
I was very disappointed in this novel. It started out interesting but by the end left too many loose ends and many of the "solutions" just didn't make sense. It seemed the authors started with a good idea and then got lost along the way and couldn't get it together to create a plausible ending. The end was particularly bad as the real "mystery" was not solved. This...

This was obviously a marketing tactic to get readers to buy the next book. My advice - Pass on this one.

This book should have been 100 pages shorter. The first 100 pages were so repetitious I almost gave up.

Not a very interesting/believable story.

And you know how in some books you really get to know the characters and feel what they feel, and care what happens to them? Well that never happens with this book.

This is the first (and last) book I have read by Lisa Jackson.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Jackson's finest, February 14, 2009
By
Enjoying Lisa Jackson's other books, I settled down for a good evening read and was very disappointed. The character motivations were never fully realized and plotting was weak. In fact, the only part of this book that really worked well was the romance. Everyone can have an "off" book, so will keep the faith Jackson will soon be back to her best.

This book dragged on a bit, introducing too many disconnected and confusing stories. I stuck with it gamely, only to be severely let down at the end. Virtually none of the loose ends were tied up and half of the characters didn't seem to fit into the plot. Clearly, there will be a sequel. I don't like this--when I read a book, I want answers at the end of the book. I do not want to have to wait months for ANOTHER book. As a general rule, I like Lisa Jackson, but she can do better than this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Bad, March 8, 2009
I've, literally, hurled this book against the wall three times. Generally unwilling to simply toss books into the trash without giving them a real chance, "Wicked" finally sent me over the edge. Rife with sophomoric writing, a weak plot, and unsympathetic characters, this book doesn't simply takes up valuable space in the wastebasket. "Wicked" doesn't even deserve ONE star.

When I read the reviews of the book on amazon (many were bad), I really did not want to read the book. However, I happened to see the book at a yard sale and purchased it. I just finished reading it and I really enjoyed it! It was very suspenseful and it kept me guessing till the end. I usually am not a fan of the paranormal in novels, but this story had just enough where it was intriguing and for the most part very believable. I thought the relationship and chemistry between Hudson and Becca was very good. My one criticism is at the end, I think they could have explained the villian and the connection to Becca a little better. All in all, a very good book!

I tried to like this book, I really did! I have read most of Ms Jacksons' books. I could not get past page 125. I gave it to a friend. Ms Jackson needs to continue her solo writing career.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Boring, February 17, 2009
I couldn't even finish this book and I usually like her work. I found it very boring and not scary at all. Having to read what Becca would and wouldn't do, her ever changing mind and views was mind numbing. It only took a few chapters for me to put the book in the "donate" box.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Many Points of View, July 14, 2009
I'm not a fan of books written from multiple points of view, like this one. I feel it doesn't allow me to truly get to know and empathize with any one character, and that was true of this book.

Paranormal stuff has to be handled very deftly to be engaging to me - otherwise it feels overdone - and this book was walking a fine line where that was concerned. I also did not care for the italicized text from the 'antagonist.' Even the romance was too goody-goody for me; I wanted more struggle, especially considering the stress and major life changes these characters were under.

I also felt the ending was too soft. Why send Becca to Siren Song when she didn't learn anything from it and it didn't move the story forward?

I DID like the crash scene. (But what can you expect from a writer of medical fiction??)

4.0 out of 5 stars Filled with mystery and suspense, June 1, 2009
Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush team together to create a novel filled with mystery and suspense. Becca Sutcliff begins having visions of her friend Jessie, but Jessie's been missing for twenty years.

Sam McNally has never believed Jessie simply ran away, but was never able to discover any proof. That is, until a skeleton shows up buried in the grounds of St. Elizabeth's, the school first introduced in Most Likely to Die.

Wicked Game is an ambitious project, with a touch of paranormal and many characters who intertwine and twist around, bringing the past into the present. The villain of the piece shows up in short, first-person segments...a villain who has been around for a long time and who has been instrumental in Jessie's disappearance as well as other crises in Becca's life.

It can be difficult keeping up with the many subplots that fill the pages of this book, but they all weave together to create a story that will make you wonder "who dunnit." The relationship between Becca and Hudson is life- and love-affirming, and Detective Sam McNally and his son are characters I want to see more of. This book can be satisfying to the reader who is willing to give it the attention it deserves.

If you enjoy a story that will keep you wondering, Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush will fill the bill in their first outing together, Wicked Game. I look forward to the next installment in this series.
