fantastic erotic romantic science fiction,
This review is from: Wicked Harvest (Paperback)
The Harvester understands that sex is duty and duty is sex. In that environs, Chur a Harvester in training, has prepared for the past year minus one day for his role of taking virgins to ecstasy but never allowing himself the same pleasure. The women with his one dip into their honey pot are deemed ready for marriage, but he must remain alone and aloof. His loyal paratanist servant Enovese has fallen in love with her master Chur. She believes he cares for her much more than just as a kind boss though he hides his feelings. She has decided to take a chance on love by giving her virginity to the Harvester; if she fails she will have to marry someone else. He has freed his first two females to marry their bondmate, but is stunned with the identity of the third one. Chur tries to hide his desire, but Enovese will not allow him to escape her siren's call. He knows she is his bondmate, but if he declares her so, as he knows also the consequences, he plans to teach his slave sexual obedience that is if he can keep her from making him come to soon. This is a fantastic erotic romantic science fiction tale in which Anitra Lynn McLeod creates a fascinating world with an intriguing custom. The lead couple is a delightful pairing as Enovese risks all for her perfect mate while Chur is caught between his need for his bondmate and his responsibility to society as a Harvester. Fans who relish something different will appreciate the tale of the WICKED HARVESTER and his clever paratanist. Harriet Klausner

2.5 stars. A lot of erotic sex set within a weak story. Various characters' motivations were not explained well enough.,

STORY BRIEF:On the planet Diola, warriors battle for the right to be the "harvester." Chur has been the harvester for three seasons. Once a season virgins lay down on tables in a public room. With one thrust to each woman, Chur takes their virginity. The virgins and Chur are covered in an oil that prevents feeling or sensation. Enovese was born as a servant whose sole job is to care for the harvester. She cooks for him and bathes and oils his body year round. She's been secretly in love with Chur since she met him. After she lets him know her feelings, he is selfish, rude and hurtful toward her. Later, he starts to fall in love with her but he denies it because he is so bound up in rituals and duty. Additional conflict develops from other warriors wanting Chur's job, other women wanting to become Chur's mate, and living within a society full of restrictive and difficult rules and political maneuverings. REVIEWER'S OPINION: It's a complicated society. A lot of time is spent describing ancient rituals and roles. I never understood the motivations for some of the other warriors' actions. I questioned some of the logic and rationale for other characters' actions, for example: how and why Chur changed his mind about Enovese. I wanted to better understand Arianda's actions from years earlier and recently. I didn't like the gods coming into the story to solve problems. That was too convenient for me. The story is a fantasy due to some psychic connections, but the gods had no role in the story at all until the very end, when they solved things. It didn't belong. I also didn't buy the queen's actions at the end. She didn't do what she threatened to do. It seemed an easy way to give the story a happy ending. There were a lot of sex scenes, many of them a bit too long for me. I found myself skimming a few of them. Sex scenes included spanking, rear door activity and men raping men. On balance, there were some new and interesting ideas, but on a few occasions, I wanted the story to be over. DATA: Story length: 329 pages. Swearing language: none. Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: 21, many of them were several pages long. Setting: unknown time on the planet Diola. Copyright: 2009. Genre: erotic fantasy scifi romance. |
