This book is so disjointed I had to reread the first few pages to make the next make sense - and it only helped a little, I ended up just reading past what didn't make sense and got some clarification later. The rest of the story flows smoother, but is so disjointed its distracting. The hero of the story, Sebestian, leaves his wife for 6 years and no one knows why, he comes back reinvigorated with love for his wife Eleanor and she receives him happily. I was reading this on a Kindle and so don't have the usual sense of where in book I am, but it seemed like the first half this book was only content from the two main characters and the author realized there is nothing else going on besides this "oh-so mysterious" intrigue that all the sudden other characters popped up. Its intrigue was not intriguing. There was no mystery. The characters were likable enough, but lacked depth. If your husband leaves off and on for 3 years and then just gone for 3 years - would you ask questions? I guess Eleanor was so relieved to have him back and continue her "spy-work" that she just accepted his return. The entire thing was tedious to get through. And towards the end, well it sucked. Things just happened because you made it to a new page. The story had potential, but overall its disjointed and lacking.
It must be known that an author like Jillian Hunter can sell based on her name alone, but now I just feel taken advantage of - this book is not worth your money. With a disappointment like this...I'm not sure how she'll redeem herself.

Disappointing,
This review is from: A Wicked Lord at the Wedding (Mass Market Paperback)
Sebastien Boscastle leaves his wife Eleanor the day after their marriage, is gone for three years on government war missions, then is back only sporadically for the next three years. Six years after their marriage, he returns to finally settle down and make it up to his wife. A wonderful premise for a book, with the potential for some great scenes and relationship building. Unfortunately, none of that ever happens. Why he decided to be gone for so long is not explained satisfactorily. Instead, the book is mostly taken up with an ill-advised plot where Eleanor, as a favor to the Duchess of Wellington, dresses as a swashbuckling gentleman and breaks into houses at night to retrieve some supposedly indiscreet letters that have something to do with the Duke. How these letters end up in all these different houses, why, and how the Duchess finds out about them is never properly explained (the Duke doesn't care about them). Also, the only letter the reader is privy to, has nothing to do with the Duke's sex life. Eleanor doesn't seem to have much of a problem welcoming her husband back to her bed after six years of mostly absence. While there is some minor discussion of Sebastien having to prove he loves her, we're not given any real conflict between the two. They seem to get along just fine, in spite of the absence, so the reader doesn't care much either. The upshot is that the potentially interesting aspect of these people is never explored, while we are treated to a silly plot that is uninvolving and makes no sense. Ms. Hunter has shown herself in the past to be quite able to write a moving and involving story of interesting people. What happened here?

Not what I would expect from this writer.,

I see Jillian Hunter's name and immediately purchase the book. This endeavor was not what I had hopped for.
I enjoyed all the Boscastle Books, however this one was not up to par. Although I did like the characters, there just seemed to be something lacking... it was as if the husband simply had to wait around for the wife to give in and accept him. Which I did not find too objectionable, however there was not the tension or excitement that usually comes with Ms. Hunter's books. Another factor contributing to my cool reception to the story, was the back and forth time sequences, from the beginning of the marriage to their current circumstances. I could have been done in a prologue, or perhaps first half. In all it feels the author did not give her best effort when developing this tale. Hopefully, the next one will be better.

A Wicked Lord at the Wedding,
This review is from: A Wicked Lord at the Wedding (Mass Market Paperback)
Eleanor Prescott was swept off her feet as soldier Sebastian Boscastle courted her. When they married, she thought all of her dreams had come true. Then Sebastian began disappearing frequently on secret missions until he didn't come home at all. Years later Sebastian is back and ready to claim the wife he left behind, only the woman he once knew is now a spy herself. Sebastian knew he would have a battle ahead of him trying to gain Eleanor's trust back, but he had no idea she had become his peer in espionage. Now he has to keep her safe while trying to win her heart again.
Eleanor and Sebastian's love affair swept me off my feet. The story of how they meet is incredibly romantic. Sebastian's determination to have Eleanor is utterly charming. He wooed her with the skill of a rogue, but his heart was fully engaged as well. Eleanor is independent and adept in her undercover pursuits. She is also guarded and with good reason. She loves her husband and she's willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, although not unconditionally. Sebastian has to work for her trust. And work for it he does. While Eleanor's passion for Sebastian is easily re-ignited, her trust in him is not. Sebastian's jealousy and guilt is actually endearing. Eleanor and Sebastian have obvious chemistry. While their desire for each other is intense, they also connect intellectually and emotionally. Every morning they eat a leisurely and very proper breakfast together, however, the rest of the day they are secretive sleuths often thrown in the path of danger while sneaking in passionate trysts. A Wicked Lord at the Wedding has a determined Lord, a delightful Lady, and many wicked adventures. Nannette Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I've really enjoyed reading the Boscastle series but I was disappointed with this book. The story line is disjointed, we never really find out enough about the letters to understand the main character's motivation in risking so much to recover them, and I realize I sometimes doze off while reading but I don't recall any mention of the wedding featured in the title. I liked the atypical story line, definitely not the usual romance. Get a new editor, Jillian - this has the potential to be a much better book.

fabulous historical romance,
This review is from: A Wicked Lord at the Wedding (Mass Market Paperback)
In the first three years of their marriage Sebastian Boscastle was more away from home than with his wife Eleanor. Three years ago he vanished while on an espionage mission. Eleanor missed her spouse but moved on.
Now in 1816 Sebastian has come home; having recovered from injuries to reclaim his spouse. He has heard rumors about her so he serendipitously watches her sneak out at night in male garb. She masquerades as the Mayfair Marauder trying to steal letters from traitors planning on harming Wellington. Sebastian decides to join his wife on her mission so that he can seduce this "gentleman" to join him in his bed. The latest Boscastle Regency romance is a fabulous historical filled with pathos and wit as the lead protagonist must court the legendary Mayfair Marauder in order to re-earn the trust of his wife; he knows he has one advantage, which is love. Fans will appreciate this engaging tale as the intrepid Eleanor may still love her husband, but believes he will leave again so kicks him to the proverbial Mayfair curb. The fun in this enchanting Boscastle gender war is observing the wicked lord refusing to quit on love. Harriet Klausner

The Wicked Lord at the Wedding,

I had always liked Jillian Hunter's books, most of the time I couldn't but one of her books down when I start reading it. I always liked her Boscastle families. But this one I couldn't get through it. Finally a little over half way done with it, I threw it out. I thought maybe if I keep reading, it would get better, it didn't. In my opinion it stunk, I hope the next one coming out at the end of October is better than this one. If it isn't, I will write her off my list of authors to look for when their new books come out.

gee, jillian what were you thinking or not thinking when you wrote this book? others have already summerized this book over and over so let me say i just could not get into this one. how can any wife who has any self-worth accept a husband back as easily as this one did after six years. i know he made brief appearances prior to his last three year absence, i could have gone with an absence of a year or so, but to leave right after the wedding and then such a long span until he decides to show-up, no way. i have EVERY one of your books, but my favorite is GLYNLYON'S BRIDE. for those of you who have not read glynlyon's bride give it a chance, it is a great experience, a fun read definitely a keeper for me as has all of her books up until this one. i had to skip pages to get through this book. pick a shorter time frame for separation in your next books, i know there was a war, but his excuse for not returning for the last three years of the six was assinine, and spoiler here: being completely faithful to her all this time somehow i could not buy it when truthfully he hardly knew his wife. look forward to your other books.

I ordered the book because of the author and the fact the it was part of the Bocastle series. I found the characters and the plot interesting. I truly enjoyed the book and found myself wanting to read more about the other brothers. I would recommend this one to my friends and it is definitely a keeper
