Book Description

The adventure of a lifetime might just end in turmoil, but when it includes meeting your future mate, who gives a hoot?

A Novella of the Elder Races

For a librarian with a focus on rare magic books, Olivia’s new job is a dream come true. She has been hired as part of a team to help manage the safe transportation of the collection of books owned by the Vampyre sorceress Carling Severan. The fact that the library is located on a mysterious island in an Other land only heightens the adventure.

Head of security for the expedition, Sebastian Hale is tired of his rootless life of adventure and finds himself attracted to the calm, beautiful librarian. But he is living a personal nightmare. He has been hit with a curse that is slowly taking away his sight, and he doesn’t know if he will survive the results.

But the powerful feelings growing between them, along with Sebastian’s inner turmoil, take a backseat when they learn there is a traitor lurking among their expedition team. With Elder Races politics and a priceless library on the line, they’ll have to rely on each other to survive the experience.

Warning: When a librarian who likes to nest meets an owl Wyr who has always lived for adventure, their romance won’t just be fly-by-night…

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable July 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am not a fan of novellas. I have passed many books because of this. Thea Harrison is one author whose novellas I will read without hesitation. My favorite novella is Devil's Gate. This one is right behind that book. The world building is exceptional but at this point most people who have read her stories know that. Thea Harrison is a risk taker. Initially, I was disappointed when I realized he was an owl shifter. She made it work. He is a great Hero. Not many authors could convince me that an owl shifter is a strong leading man. Thea Harrison did! They make a very sweet couple. There is enough of a showing the arc of their relationship where I did not feel cheated at the end.
My favorite stories are Dragon Bound and The Oracle's Moon. Olivia and Sebastian are not Dragos and Pia or Grace and Khalil. Those couples knocked my socks off. If you are looking for a repeat of some of her most fantastic couplings you may be disappointed. A 4 star book for Thea Harrison is a 5 star book for other authors. When I read one of her books she is only competing against her self. Yes, she is that good!
Her plots are unique. This story is not the average solving a crime story or saving the girl from a nasty boyfriend. I was interested in how dangerous transporting a library of books could be. In comparison to her other novellas this is second only to Devil's Gate. I was not disappointed and this is one I will reread!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it to pieces! July 2, 2013

The Wicked was all I could have hoped for, just wished it was longer. Readers are greedy folks when it comes to good books...and author Thea Harrison is magnificent in the books she writes. Sebastian and Olivia are wonderful characters. The plot of the story was entertaining with just enough action for a novella to keep you glued to the pages. I hope to see more of Sebastian, Olivia and all of the crew in upcoming books. I highly recommend The Wicked to those with a deep abiding love to all things paranormal and romantic. Kudos to Thea Harrison...and looking forward to your next book....may it be very soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Read =) July 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Olivia is chosen along with a team to safely retrieve a book collection from an Other land belonging to a Vampyre called Carling, this is where she meets Sebastian Hale, a yummy Wyr who is the Head of Security. While Olivia would rather stay in one place, Sebastian is the complete opposite as he travels a lot. Sparks instantly fly between them, will it be the start of a saucy relationship or will it only last as far as the expedition?
I liked how the story unraveled, it was full of twists and turns that kept me wanting more. Olivia is such a sweet character, I was pretty excited when she found herself attracted to Sebastian, who would have thought! I found myself egging her on when it came to him, GO OLIVIA!!
Phaedra was definitely my favourite character. Her attitude towards everything kept things interesting, you never know which way she will go. When she defends Olivia from a strong force it sealed the deal for me! She rocks!!!!!
I loved every minute I spent reading this novella and can't believe I haven't read any of the others in the series yet (I've just gone and bought the first 5 books). I will totally be putting them at the top of my TBR list! Now I'm impatiently waiting for them to arrive!

I love Thea Harrison's world and the characters who people it, so for me this story was pure pleasure. I must admit that the quick peek into Grace and Khalil's life was my favorite part, (love me some djinn) but the whole story is strong. We also get to see Phaedra continue her recovery, and while she's a bit prickly for my taste, I have faith in the author. I thought the same thing about Carling, but she and Rune became one of my favorite couples in the series.

Olivia and Sebastian work well together as a couple. I do wish we spent more time with just the two of them. Since the story is so short, the traitor and the curse got in the way of two interesting people falling in love. Really it's a testament to Thea's excellent characterization that the suspense element felt unnecessary to me. I wanted watch Olivia and Sebastian explore their relationship and that time gets fast-forwarded a bit. A personal preference rather than criticism. Really I just find the whole Wyr mate thing so sexy and fascinating! More of that, less of the bad guys!

This is one of the best romance series on the market: well-written, wildly original, romantic, sexy, and fun. (It's also worth noting that Harrison's world-building is always consistent. She doesn't make rules and then violate them, a pet peeve of mine.) If you aren't familiar with Harrison's world, this probably isn't the best place to start, so start at beginning ASAP! You will not regret it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not engaging July 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am sad about this one. Harrison is very talented writer and her world as always is rich and fun. I was very much looking forward to a book about an owl shifter and librarian. How cool is that? But no. All telling and no real emotional connection to characters. Not enough of the relationship. I put this one down and picked it up again many times. I really just was not interested in finishing. Maybe I will change my review later if I do but for now. Meh.
