Promising description, disappointing book,
This review is from: Wicked Pleasures (Harlequin Historical Victorian #873) (Mass Market Paperback)
Typically in a romance book there is a character or characters you fall in love with or at least want to champion their fate or happiness. Had expected Adeline to be that character or perhaps Grant, but both were cold, shallow and at times nasty. Adeline makes poor, unbelieveable choices and says so much that does not match what they author tells you she is. She certainly does not live up to the books description.
A disappointing book, slow to build and in the end not worth the read time or cost to buy.

I really enjoyed this story. Usually when a couple struggles back and forth like Grant and Adeline do you find yourself frustrated and can't wait for it to be over, but that wasn't the case with me. I found myself caught up in all the problems and truly caring for each character. The real shocker to me was what happened with Grant's sister. I won't give it away here for future readers but to me this was highly unusual for the Victorian era and for the other historical romance books that I have read. I will be reading more books by this author.

I agree with texas annie, do not know why the less than favourable reviews of this book. I had not read any of this authors previous books, but found this an enjoyable read, and one I did not want to put down once I started it. Loved the story. Will definately seek out more of her novels.

Ultimately, Helen Dickson's Wicked Pleasures is a bit of a disappointment. At first, the story begins to build with lots of scandal and the anticipation of more to come. But the story begins to drift into nothing, and never picks up speed again.
Helen Dickson has a lot going for her, and I'm sure her next novel will knock our Regency socks off!

I really don't understand the low reviews this book has gotten. I think the heroine is an admirable one, independent. The story is believable and the characters interesting. I very much enjoyed this story and intend to seek out more books by this author.
