This book starts off well with Harry following Julia to her father's country estate with the intention of proposing. Before he can ask for her hand, the two take a ride together and Harry gets thrown from his horse and injures his leg. Julia, the spoiled and delicate woman that she is, can't stand the thought or the sight of Harry injured so she runs off to London. It's her sister, Augusta "Gus", that nurses Harry back to health. While they are constantly in each other's company, their feelings for each other grow and cannot be denied.

I loved reading about the health practices of this era; I feel that Isabella Bradford did her homework here. The majority of this book is spent with Harry in bed recovering with Gus by his side. This could be a very tedious plot, but Ms. Bradford kept things moving with visitors, musicians, etc. It was just enough to keep my interest, but this was a fine line where I expect some will disagree.

This isn't the type of romance that I typically go for, I prefer something with some intrigue, suspense or conflict. A Wicked Pursuit has none of that. It's a light and sweet read. Harry and Gus confess their love in the last third, and from there, things did get a bit dull for me. A lot of I Love You's as they eventually reacclimate back into London's society. At this point, it was hard not to start skimming.

My thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review A Wicked Pursuit.

I just really enjoyed A Wicked Pursuit.
I found myself smiling at some little absurdity and outright chuckling at others.
Of course my heart was wounded when Gus's (that's Miss Augusta Wetherby) heart was wounded, and at moments both cross and understanding of Harry (Charles Neville Fitzroy, fourth Earl of Hargreave).
Harry is actually pursuing Gus's more beautiful half sister, Miss Julia Wetherby.
When Harry is badly injured in a riding accident at the Wetherby's country home, and sister Julia hies off to London unable to face the thought of the dashing Harry an invalid, Gus is the one who nurses Harry through this traumatic time. Actually Julia can't bear the possibility of being saddled with a cripple.
Harry is such a petulant roguish character with the heart of gold and Gus is the level headed enchanting Cinderella who comes to believe in them and herself.
Mind you Harry is also something of a spoiled brat at times, but we forgive him, as we are meant to. He can be very charming and persuasive.
And of course we meet a pride of careless relations and overbearing ones.
A Wicked Pursuit is just the thing for a leisurely, not too complicated reading time, a worthy novel to languish over on a cosy afternoon, or evening, or really whenever.
But most of all what Wicked is, is a plain old-fashioned completely delectable love story!

**Provided a copy by NetGalley for an honest review***

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book! I absolutely loved it. I have to say, Harry & Gus are my new favorite couple. Their story was so special and really touches my heart. The strength that both of the characters show is amazing. I loved that we got to meet both of the families as well since they were so important to both of the main characters. The supporting characters were very well written, they were whole but didn't take over the story. Julia and her drama were even put in the proper place and I was so glad to see how the relationship between Julia and Gus played out. I would recommend this book VERY highly to any fan of historical romances.

As the eldest son and heir of the Duke of Beconridge, Harry Fitzroy planned to do his duty, by marrying and producing an heir. As Lady Julia Barclay was in fact one of the most beautiful of the debutantes this season she would make the a perfect countess and future duchess. Besotted with her beauty and preparing to ask for her hand in marriage, he followed her to her home in Norfolk, ring in hand and planning to make the most important commitment in his life. However, before he could pop the question a disastrous toss from his horse, put a stop to his plans - and almost his life!

Were it not for an ‘angel of mercy’ in the guise of Lady Julia’s sister Augusta “Gus” whom Harry had never even knew existed, Gus not only saved Harry his leg, but kept him from discovering her sister’s incapacity of staying true to anyone but herself. Gus kept her sisters secret, and her own as she fell more and more in love with Harry during his convalescence.

*** First off, A WICKED PURSUIT is my first book by Isabella Bradford and because I love following series, I was doubly thrilled as it is also the first book of a brand new series - the Breconridge Brothers! Yes, thrilled - because I loved Bradford’s writing, plotting, and emotional pull that Ms. Bradford wove into this wonderful story.

As I would assume most would guess by my short summary, Lady Julia was not one of my favorite characters as she was spoiled rotten; entirely to self indulgent; and with not a grain of concern for anyone other than herself. While Gus, her half-sister, was everything that one could wish for in a heroine, beautiful in her heart and soul, and as compassionate as an angel. The angel that Harry first saw when he opened his eyes - not that he realized it until much later.
