Book Description

• This unique anthology Includes 10 Original Retro-Sci-Fi Illustrations from the 1950s and early 1960s.

I am old enough to remember the tail end of the “Golden Age” of sci-fi.
These are three magnificent tales in this 210-page compilation from that era.

However, I must warn you, their authors are not politically correct, sensitive or careful to not offend anyone. They are strong, gut wrenching tales, apt to take you on an emotional roller coaster ride and even piss you off or make you engage in an involuntary belly laugh!

The 10 original illustrations that accompany them are real art and catapult you into unexpected out worlds and future scenarios as no amount of computer-generated special effects from mega movie studies can.

These tales are wicked to the bone, and yes, above all else, entertaining, hardcore sci-fi. In other words, not counterfeit – but the real stuff!
They include:

• The Second Variety by Philip Dick, the creator of “Minority Report.”
• Forget Me Nearly by F. L. Wallace
• Novella: The World That Couldn’t Be by Clifford D. Simak

4.0 out of 5 stars Rave on! March 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This S-F review, which thankfully includes the word "Pulp" in its title, reminds us of the time when virtually all forms of literary art, from the plebian to the elevated, were released in serial/chapter form. Like Shakespeare, early S-F did not pretend to be the be all and end all of literature. It aimed to please, and that is a very good thing.

When I started reading this book, I realizedd that at least one of them were made into a movie not too long ago. The movie was great and so was the story. All the stories are worth reading.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed October 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The title says it all. I already owned and have read most of these short stories in other anthologies. Although the tales are good, it was a shame to waste the time and money on repeats. A list of the index of stories and authors on the offering page would be helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read July 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed these stories from the past. Clifford D. Simak is one of my all time favorite authors and I first read his story, very creative. I also read the others and enjoyed them too. I thought this collection was well worth $1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sci-Fi Pulp done well, done right. October 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an excellent collection of 1950's pulp. There were as there always are in these collections a few I had read before, but it was nice to revisit them, especial in the context of all the rest. It's well worth reading after all 1954 was a great year ( yes I'm that old).

5.0 out of 5 stars More great sci fi July 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you like the old time Sci Fi this is for you. I enjoy the sort story aspect, rather than getting tied down to one long long long book. Easy to sit down and devour a story when time permits. Lots of different writing styles and ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars great stuff August 18, 2013

A bit short but reminds me of how good science fiction can be without sex or violence. Excellent writing and plotting

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book. May 22, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of 50s sci-fi and horror movies and these stories fit well into that mold. Intelligently written also. I've read some reviews from people nit-picking over trivial things like no table of contents and that the stories are grouped together. They're complete and cost a dollar. These so called inconveniences do not detract at all from the enjoyment of the stories. If you're interested,I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Kind of Sci-fi
Yes, the writing style is dated and there are some PC issues, but it's fun to go back to that space opera, universe wide pure pulp that got most of us started as fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Old school Sci-fi from a master. A must read for sci-fi lovers.
Sci-Fi from a master. Phillip K. Dick is a name well known by Sci-fi freaks. His stories have been made into movies, not that it is always a good thing; however any of this... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Some excellent stories, some not so hot. Even the bad ones have an interesting premise. All entertaining and worth the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dated
So much of this is so dated, it's not worth reading. I read a bit of it when I was much younger (not yet a teenager), and there may be a good reason it is largely ignored. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed
Three excellent sci-fi stories. I do have to admit, however, that I found the first story rather disturbing, but it did not detract from the quality of the book. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Wickedly cool Sci-Fi
Great Atomic era stories! Wonderfully scary and fun. These stories have already led me to find more works by the authors. I only wish there had been more illustrations!
