3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda slow, and more plot than hot...
Mostly about her stalker situation and not much about the journey exploring D/s.

Odd threesome twist.

Kind of disjointed.

Too kinky to hand off as a sexy intro into D/s B&D but too mild for those who already know they like it.

Morgan O'Malley is running - both from her own secret desires and a dangerous stalker. Leaving California for Texas seemed the perfect solution to hiding from the man stalking her. But when he finds her at a lunch meeting with Jack Cole, her dangerous stalker turns absolutely lethal.

Jack Cole has waited years for his revenge, and the perfect opportunity finally arrives in the form of the beautiful Morgan when he meets with her to discuss BDSM for an episode of her sex talk show. Jack, a Dom, instantly recognizes the unrealized submissive lurking within Morgan, and determines to make her realize her every fantasy - with him, destroying her engagement to his long-time enemy in the process. When Morgan is attacked, Jack promptly appoints himself her bodyguard, determining to protect her and have his revenge all at once.

As Jack and Morgan open up to each other, they begin to fall in love. But will their needs prove more dangerous to their love than the stalker?

With the first excerpt I read for Shayla Black's novel, Wicked Ties, I was hooked. Although not typically into BDSM plots, the excerpts Shayla Black has posted on her website and blog stirred an interest in me that was undeniable. I was therefore understandably excited at the opportunity to review Wicked Ties. The book did NOT disappoint - in any way.

As I mentioned, this book has a heavy BDSM theme, although it never seems `in your face' hard core BDSM like some other novels. Make no mistake, Jack Cole is as dominant as Morgan O'Malley is submissive, but the author's approach to these scenes makes BDSM palatable to most readers. While the love scenes are explicit and plentiful, the scenes never include acts of degradation. Indeed, although Jack is confused concerning his conflicting feels over Morgan, we never doubt that every thing he asks of her is geared towards making her happy and fulfilled. Even though he had intended to use her for revenge, Jack can not help his desire to help Morgan with her struggle to reconcile the desires she has viewed as depraved.

I said before the love scenes are plentiful, and it is no exaggeration. If you are looking for a steamy read with a great plot, this is a must read! Shayla Black proves herself as one of those authors who adeptly sneaks a very complete plot in the middle of her love scenes. The stalker plot provides plenty of suspense and of course, a nice twist as to the identity of the stalker.

Casting Jack in the role of bodyguard with a madman terrorizing Morgan is the perfect way to showcase his ultimate concern for her well-being and safety while simultaneously leading her into his world of BDSM.

Shayla Black already has a sequel to Wicked Ties in progress, and I guarantee this will be on my automatic buy list!

This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was awesome. I stayed up till three in the morning just to finish it. I could not get enough of Jack and Morgan. The book starts off with Morgan, who is a successful businesswoman with a talk show that deals with sex. But soon we see that she is running scared, literally. She even moves to another state to get away from the stalker, but we see that he soon follows. And with all this, she still has a talk show to run. Her latest topic is BDsm. So she goes to meet Jack, a Dominant who she met online in hopes of getting more information on the lifestyle.

Jack has a plan, and it seems to be working out perfectly. He has arranged to get a meeting with his ex friends finance' in hopes of getting revenge. He plans to seduce Morgan, and then shove the affair in his ex friends face. Then he feels his revenge will be complete. But as they get five minutes into their meeting the stalker open fires on them at a cafe, and Jack literally drags her into safety. That is afterall his specialty, being in the military and now a bodygaurd, protecting someone is second nature to him. Jack quickly decides that protecting Morgan untill the stalker is caught is the perfect way to get close to her and to finally seduce her.

Morgan is reluctant and suspicious at first, but finally agrees to accept his help. So Jack quickly takes her out of the city and into the back woods of Louisana to his secluded cabin. This is where things spice up in the story quick. Morgan is undeniably attracted to Jack. He is tall, dark, has a body to die for, and the charm and confidence to melt any female. And Jack quickly discovers that she is the woman he has been having dreams about for months now. He also sees the perfect submissive in her, if only she will admit it.

I loved watching Morgan struggle with her desire to be dominated in bed. She knew that is what she needed, and had always secretly dreamed about, but had a hard time excepting it. She felt ashamed for liking it. And Jack was perfect. Once he realized Morgan was more important than revenge, he started helping her deal with her needs and desires. Helped her see there was nothing wrong with wanting to be dominated. He was so caring and patient while breaking her in. I think he truly understood her, even when Morgan didn't understand herself. And he knew exactly what to give her, he put her desires first. This book is not to be missed. I am eagerly awaiting Deke's story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Ties, May 1, 2008

This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
Morgan O'Malley hosts a sex talk show in Los Angeles called Turn Me On, and for one of her upcoming shows, she wants to interview an experienced dominant. She agrees to meet Master J in Lafayette to learn all she can about a dominant/submissive relationship while she is visiting her brother Brandon in Houston. Morgan almost falls over her tongue when she is first introduced to Jack Cole because he is sexily built, and heart stopping gorgeous. Jack likes what he sees in Morgan, but wonders why she has covered herself up to the point he can barely see her under the disguise. He doesn't have to wonder long because only after a few minutes of conversation, a waiter delivers a package to Morgan that obviously petrifies her. She hastily gets up explaining she must leave immediately, but before he can question her further, gunfire erupts. Since Jack is a security specialist, his first instinct is to protect Morgan, and he manages to get her to the only place insured safe, his cabin in the surrounding swampland.

Morgan relates the problems she has encountered with a stalker to Jack who in turn asks his partner Deke to investigate. Realizing this is serious, Morgan agrees to let Jack keep her hidden, and under his protection. She also agrees to let him show her how the dom/sub relationship works while they are together. Jack can see that Morgan has trust issues because she is unable to fully submit to him, but he hopes introducing her slowly to the lifestyle, trust will come. Morgan has always been told her deepest fantasies were wrong, but can't deny the explosive passion Jack brings out in her. Can they overcome her stalker, and his need for revenge against an old enemy to be together?

I have found a new must buy author in Shayla Black! This book is well written with intense likable characters. An emotional thrilling read that has a perfect balance between story and eroticism.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Ties Probably Won't Disappoint Readers Who Want Scorching Sex Scenes, July 31, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
If all you want in a BDSM romance is scorching sex scenes, Wicked Ties probably won't disappoint you.

The chemistry between Morgan O'Malley the host of a sex talk show and self-proclaimed dominant bodyguard Jack Cole was immediate and powerful.

When Morgan's stalker found her and took a shot at her during Morgan's interview with Jack, Jack declared himself her bodyguard and whisked her away to a remote cabin which only intensified the sizzle between them.

Though the attraction between Morgan and Jack was strong, and it was clear that Morgan was attracted by Jack's dominance I found his behavior early in the book to be reprehensible.

First of all, being curious about BDSM or D/s or being attracted to someone who is a dom is not the same as giving consent for a BDSM or D/s relationship to ensue. From the moment Morgan and Jack meet for their interview Jack focused on turning what should have been a general discussion about BDSM relationships into a personal attempt to get Morgan to submit to him.

That worked okay in the opening, but once he took her to his cabin to protect her from the stalker his focus on getting her to submit sexually intensified to the point that he was like a relentless bulldozer, continually pushing and demanding and not taking any time to get to know her on anything other than a sexual level.

He seemed to think from the outset that he knew Morgan's needs better than she knew them herself, all on the space of a couple of days acquaintance. In the early part of the book he wasn't patient, he didn't encourage her to open up to him emotionally, he just pushed and pushed and pushed for her to submit sexually. When she said no he didn't take no for an answer (again thinking he knows what she needs better than she does).

Spoiler alert:

As if his constantly pushing for her submission wasn't enough, Jack at one point tells Morgan that BDSM is built on trust. He does this in the same general timeframe as he is encouraging her to trust him, so that he can tape their first sexual encounter so that he can send it to her fiancé, against whom he has a grudge. This is reprehensible behavior for any hero, let alone the hero in a BDSM book, where relationship needs to be based on trust.

If BDSM is built on trust then it requires a partner who is trustworthy. I didn't find Jack trustworthy, particularly in the first portion of the book. He earned a little of my respect later in the book when he had to overcome his own misgivings to give Morgan a sexual experience that was important to her. He earned a bit more when the past came crashing down and he had to own up to sending the tape.

Though the sex scenes are very hot and are very well written I would recommend this book cautiously. Some readers are likely to be put off by Jack's behavior early in the book (as I was). For some his later behavior will make up for it. For others the bad taste left early on will not be overcome.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made me sweat!, January 14, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
Emotionally scarred talk show host Morgan O'Malley is the victim of a stalker. Finding herself in danger, she must trust the one man who makes her nervous, Jack Cole. Will Morgan submit to her secret desires or will she give up the one man whom she wants to be tied to forever?

The host of a cable sex talk show, Morgan O'Malley is the victim of a relentless stalker. She secretly flies to Houston to stay with her half-brother Brandon and poses as his fiancé. With the hope that the stalker was left behind, Morgan continues to work even though her show is on hiatus. She contacts Master J, a well-known Dominant, to get information for an upcoming episode. Master J agrees to meet her the next day after pushing several of Morgan's hidden, secret, sexual buttons. Just when her day could not get any worse, Brandon walks in with an envelope that Morgan knows is from her stalker; he has found her. Refusing to give in and be afraid, Morgan travels to the location she and Master J agreed upon. As Morgan and Master J start talking, shots are fired and they are aimed at Morgan.

Ex-Special Forces, bodyguard, and dominant, Jack Cole has spent three years trying to find a way to pay back Brandon Ross. Redemption comes in the form of curious Morgan O'Malley, talk show host and Brandon's fiancé. Jack is thrilled when Morgan contacts him to get information on the practice of dominance and submission. He agrees to meet Morgan the next day to answer her questions. Immediately upon meeting Morgan, Jack senses her secret desire to submit to a man and sets his plan of seduction in motion. As he moves in, shots are fired in Morgan's direction. Jack's training kicks in and he spirits her away to safety, much to her dismay.

Hours later, Morgan wakes up alone. Frightened, she jumps up but notices Jack in the doorway watching her. Morgan doesn't know what she should be more scared of; her stalker, or Jack and the way he makes her yearn for him.

Jack knows it is only a matter of time before Morgan submits to him. He knows that Morgan is fighting hard with herself and her desire to remain in control. He figures one night of submission to him will be enough but he could not have been more wrong. Instead of revenge on Brandon Ross, the tables are turned. Jack doesn't count on falling for Morgan and decides that nothing on Earth, not even a stalker, will keep her from becoming his.

WICKED TIES by Shayla Black absolutely took my breath away. I am a dedicated fan of D/s, but never before have I read a book of this genre with such raw and powerful emotions. WICKED TIES wound itself around me and refused to let go. Full of passion and erotic love scenes, I found myself thinking of what it would be like to be Morgan. That is how real this book was to me. I did come to one conclusion: Jack Cole is welcome to use his ropes on me at any time!

WICKED TIES is an exceptional read that took me for an emotional ride that I did not want to end. I am delighted and thrilled to have found another author to read. Shayla Black has made a new fan and my bookshelf has a new, welcomed addition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A hot read that won't dissapoint you, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
In the name of research, Morgan O'Malley arranges to meet a man that she only knows as "Master J". As the producer of a cable show called "Turn Me On", Morgan is interested in learning more about BDSM. She's hoping that Master J, as a well known dominant can help her. No one except for her ex-fiancée knows that she secretly fantasizes about being dominated herself. After her ex cruelly rejected her, Morgan has buried her needs as far down as possible. She is determined that she will be "normal", even if she never feels satisfied sexually.

There is only one reason that Jack Cole has agreed to meet Morgan O'Malley. That reason is revenge. Jack is determined to steal the woman of his enemy, Brandon Ross. His former best friend, Jack knows the best way to get revenge on Brandon is by doing exactly what Brandon did to him. When Jack meets Morgan, he realizes that there is far more to her than meets the eye. Soon, thoughts of revenge are the furthest thing from his mind. Determined to master her, Jack uses everything in his sexual arsenal to show Morgan that she is a born submissive.

Jack soon learns that Morgan's life is in danger from a stalker who has escalated from threatening notes to attempted murder. As a bodyguard, Jack knows he has exactly what he needs to get Morgan under his roof. As the cool days and steamy nights pass, Jack knows he can never let Morgan go. He also knows that she may never forgive him when she learns his true reason for searching her out in the first place.

WICKED TIES is a wonderful erotic romance suspense. There was a perfect balance between the erotica and the suspense. The sex and romance in the book blended together in just the right way. There are a few surprises here and there that definitely spiced the book up. I look forward to Shayla Black's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a KEEPER in the HOTTEST section of your Keeper Shelf!!, January 8, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
I was hooked on buying this book from an excerpt that
I read where Jack kept asking Morgan "Why are you so
afraid of your sexuality?" And throughout this excerpt
he kept going back to this question. I even emailed
Shayla and begged her to send me this book immediately
so I could read it NOW! I ended up ordering online
immediately (pre-order) and it was my lucky week because
in no time I received this book and devoured it.

My heart started racing because I was now Morgan and
OMG depending on how you were brought up - she thinks
it's wrong to feel all these explicit fantasies in her mind
and she can take care of herself. She doesn't need
anybody dominating her EVER! I love independent
heroines and Morgan is certainly that so it makes it really
easy to feel everything she feels and thinks.

Master J (Jack) knows differently. This is a sizzling HOT
read and I loved it. My heart got a work-out at several parts
of this book. I won't go into detail with the stalker and all
because it is said before me here.

Another really HOT part of this book is Deke! Woohoo!!!
He has to get his story!! Please~! Pretty Please~?!

You don't want to miss Master J and Morgan!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's REALLY hot in here!!, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay, I'm not going to try to review the plot, cuz the big stars above got that covered.

All I want to say is.... this is a hot, Hot, HOT!! book. The hero and heroine really have a great relationship, including the inability to communicate with each other on occasion. How cool is that? Real life makes the book more interesting.

And, we get a peek at Deke and Luc, the twosome who are looking for a threesome. I'm trying to convince author Shayla Black to let them come over a visit, but so far no luck.

If you like erotic romances, this is a must have addition to your library!

This is my first Shayla Black book and I absolutely loved it. Her book, Wicked Ties was absolutely delicious!

Morgan O'Malley is being stalked by a dangerous and increasingly aggressive stalker. In steps Jack Cole as her bodyguard, an equally dangerous and an extremely aggressive sexual dominant who fires all of Morgan's hidden desires. After an attempt on Morgan's life Jack hides her in his cabin in the bayou of Louisiana, and sets about stripping her of all her protective layers until he finds the perfect submissive underneath. Slowly he breaks her down, making her crave him, just as much as he's craving her. While he helps her with her repressed sexuality, she also helps to heal him with his own issues and past betrayals.

Jack Cole is one irresistible dominant. He comes on hard, fast and aggressive with Morgan. He takes one look at her and just knows there is a wicked, wanton submissive inside her just dying to come out and play. He is as subtle as a Mack truck when it comes to getting what he wants and what he wants is Morgan, submitting to him. He's a firm master and he establishes that right away, but he is also very sensitive to her needs. He treats her with care, but due to his nature he's relentless. At times his bullheadedness in getting Morgan to accept her hidden, repressed sexuality was too much. For a moment I was like, "Enough already! Leave the girl alone!" Fortunately, once they get past it then it's quite a fun ride! The sex in Wicked Ties is very hot with a lot of emphasis on D/s. Jack pulls out all the toys for Morgan, velvet rope, vibrators, and his infamous playroom. There is also one hot menage scene that will leave you gasping.

While the sex and the toys is as hot as one can get, the most important thing Jack attacks is Morgan's mind. His voice is the thing that guides her during one of their sessions and it's extremely erotic. He's in her mind as much as he's in her body and it's what urges her on. Also, his French Cajun voice is incredibly sexy.

I highly recommend this book for anyone whose looking for strong emphasis on a D/s relationship or anyone struggling with repressed sexuality. How Jack slowly heals Morgan into honoring herself and her desires was very touching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very erotic, with an exceptional emotional angle, March 17, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ties (Mass Market Paperback)
Morgan O'Malley is just doing research for her TV show when she tracks down mysterious dominant, 'J.' But there's something in his voice that appeals to her on more levels than just professional. When he insists that they get together, she agrees. That meeting becomes more serious when someone, almost certainly the man who's been stalking her, opens fire. 'J,' whose real name appears to be Jack, hustles her to safety--or is it really safe at all? Since the breakup of her last relationship, when Morgan revealed her secrets to her fiance, only to have them thrown back in her face, she's feared letting go--and Jack insists that she do just that.

Jack hasn't been a dominant as long as he has not to be able to recognize a submissive. Morgan can never find herself, achieve happiness if she insists on denying the person she truly is. And Jack is happy to take this sexy redhead and turn her into a sex machine. Maybe he has a bit of guilt over the secret he's hiding from her, and maybe he starts to feel that she's more than just another submissive. Still, how can it hurt if he helps her explore her submissive side--sounds like a win-win, right?

As they explore their desires and the powerful attraction that draws them together, Jack and Morgan both attempt to deny the way physical dependence is fostering emotional involvement. As Morgan opens her body, she's also opening her soul. But can Jack stand Morgan's ultimate secret, or will he crack under its pressure--and if he does crack, is Morgan now strong enough to fight for herself?

Authro Shayla Black delivers a super-sexy story. Bondage, spankings, domination, multiple penetration, toys, and even menage, play their parts in helping these two characters learn about themselves and each other. Black never loses touch of the emotional side of the developing relationship, however. The physical is always reflected in the more emotions of her characters, and closure only comes when both Jack and Morgan are able to free themselves of their fears.

If you enjoy a well-written erotic novel, you'll definitely want to check out WICKED TIES.
