Based on the life of Tom Horn,
By
This review is from: Wicked Water (Hardcover)
Mackinlay Kantor's account of a killer for hire during the turn of the Century is almost word-for-word based on the later days of Tom Horn. We have the former Indian scout turned stock detective turned killer having an affair with a school teacher and convicted and hung for the slaying of a young boy...same as the Horn saga.
I've thought for many years that Kantor changed the names of the characters in this book, most likely because when it was written in 1946, there were still many of the principles still alive. I've also read that he had trouble with his publisher over this work. In 1953 the book was made into the movie HANNAH LEE: An American Primive. The ending was changed to spice it up some and it was filmed in 3D. I would consider this a Great book for anyone interested in the life of Tom Horn.
