4.0 out of 5 stars Your Secret Is Safe With Me (`Cause It's Mine Too!), December 30, 2007

This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
Picking right up from the 2005 novel Getting Hers, author Donna Hill moves the lives of Tess, Nicole and Kim to the beautiful country of Aruba. Tess relocated her professional escort business and feels obligated to Nicole and Kim, especially since it was her brainchild that led to a tragic ending for one person in each of their lives. But with Kim's business savvy and Nicole's street sense contributing to the success of her business, it all ends up being a win-win for everyone involved.

The perfect end to this turn-of-events does seem to be a little too good to be true, not just to the reader, but to Kim and Nicole as well, especially when Tess disappears and does not return to the villa for days. Tess' protégé, Charrie, seems all too eager to step up to the plate until Tess returns and for her own reasons, places suspicion and doubt of why Tess brought them all to Aruba in the minds of Nicole and Kim. In the meantime, Tess' troubles from New York seem to have followed her to Aruba and while she is tending to them, her allegiance to Kim and Nicole stays intact.

While Wicked Ways is a sequel to Getting Hers, the author did a good job of reminding the reader what may have been missed from that book without taking away or adding unnecessary verbiage to the current novel. Doing so provided an excellent opportunity to get reacquainted with the characters and made it easy to quickly follow the storyline. The twists and turns and the way everything and everyone tied together in the end reminded me of a good soap opera. The characters, although wicked, were likeable. I wanted their lives to turn out well and wanted to see them as successful. The story was a well-told, page-turner that held me until the very end. I recommend Wicked Ways to readers that enjoy a sexy read filled with suspense and intrigue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twice Is Nice, October 27, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
It is argued that the sequel never tops the original, well Donna Hill conquers that notion with her latest novel " Wicked Ways ", the sequel to " Getting Hers ". The ladies settle in Aruba to live life to the fullest only to have their plans interrupted when Tess ( The Gangstress ) discovers that her nemesis is hot on her trail. Things get real tense when Kimberly and Nicole devise a plan to get rid of Tess and when someone from Tess' past re-emerges into her life. Hill does a masterful job of weaving suspense, passion, love, vengance and mystery throughout this novel. It has all the elements of a classic novel. Treat yourself to 2 wonderful books, " Getting Hers ", then " Wicked Ways ", a sheer delight!

4.0 out of 5 stars Running On Empty, November 9, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
Tess, Kim, and Nikki are back with a whole new set of problems. They are now in Aruba and are about to embark on a whole new life now that their arch enemies are gone for good. But their world may be turned upside down when Tess gets a phone call from Vincent. The problem is that Vincent knows too much and wants Tess to meet him. Tess has come too far to let Vincent ruin a plan that she worked so hard to execute. She will do anything to protect her future...even if it means to get rid of Vincent for good. Meanwhile, Kim and Nikki are becoming increasingly concerned about Tess and where they fit into her plans. They fear a double cross coming on but they won't go down without a fight.

Wicked Ways is a satisfying sequel to Getting Hers by Donna Hill. Hill masterfully continues this unique story about revenge. Readers not only get to find out what happened to Kim and Nikki but you get to learn about a whole new side of Tess that wasn't present in the first book. Hill did a good job of giving us the complete past history of Tess. By giving us this back story, you really see how Tess' past shaped her into the woman that she became. There is also a shocking revelation in this story that will catch some readers off guard. Wicked Ways does well as a stand alone novel but you are encouraged to read Getting Hers to get the full history of these characters. With Wicked Ways, Donna Hill proves that she is still on top of her game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wickedness Revealed.., January 28, 2008
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
In WICKED WAYS, Nikki and Kim meet their partner in crime, Tess, in her Aruban hideaway. Leaving her business in the trusting hands of confidante, Charrie, Tess is on a mission to destroy the one man who can bring her down.

In this sequel to GETTING HERS, the three musketeers are together again, but on a different level this time. Nikki and Kim realize that they've been hoodwinked by Tess, and they are planning their next move. Meanwhile, the authorities are determined to bring Tess down. But the two key players on the right side of the law go left, and no one is sure who can be trusted.

WICKED WAYS has some very unexpected circumstances that bring everything together at the end. This is a very good sequel that keeps the reader wanting to know more and more about what makes the characters tick. I am pleased with Donna Hill's work, and look forward to reading more.

5.0 out of 5 stars What goes around comes around...., November 25, 2007
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
Donna Hill's sequel to Getting Hers doesn't disappoint on any level! This fast-paced story picks up with Tess, Kim and Nikki relaxing in Aruba and basking in the glow of the perfect crime. Little do they know...there is no such thing as the perfect crime and inevitably what happens in the dark will surely come to light.

Ms. Hill expertly brings these ladies, and their issues, full-circle with a taut storyline and seamless backstory. This is a must read for all Donna Hill fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wicked, Wicked, Wicked....., August 21, 2009
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Paperback)
Novels of this caliber are easy to read and whisk you away from your life's conundrums. If you want to go on a adventure without leaving your home, grab a blanket, a bottle of wine...relax and unwind. Ms. Hill never disappoints or forgets to intertwine lose ends from the previous novel. It's so refreshing to read such a seamless and invigorating story full of surprises, twists and turns.

This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
In Getting Hers, the first book in this two-book series, a nefarious plot was hatched by three women, Nikki, Tess and Kim, who meet for the first time in an elevator during a New York City blackout. Their mission was to eliminate certain people from their lives who they felt were a hindrance to living their lives uninterrupted, or in Nikki's case, starting a new and better life. Was their mission a success? Yes, or so it seems. But as the saying goes, "what's done in the dark will come to light", and that light is brightly illuminated in Wicked Ways.

After all is said and done regarding their scheming, Tess, Kim and Nikki all end up in Aruba as planned. But before they can celebrate the success of their gruesome machinations, ghosts of the past come back to haunt. And these are some BIG ghosts because they've brought luggage! But as they say, "dead men tell no tales", and as Tess, Kim and Nikki find out, in their case, this is not true. Secrets they thought left dead and buried in New York are revealed, turning their lives into an even deadlier game of cat and mouse from which no one is safe.

It was a long wait to see how these outlandish schemes of these women would play out, but it was well worth the wait. There was one aspect of the story that I figured out early on, but there were plenty other twists and turns that had me on hanging on Ms. Hill's every word, anxiously trying to see what would happen next.

Wicked Ways is solidly written with a riveting plot, well-developed characters and enough suspense to rival the highest rated television or movie mystery. And even though it is the sequel to Getting Hers, there is enough back story told that readers who may not have read Getting Hers can know what transpired to bring them to the point where Wicked Ways picks up. Going back to her romantic roots, Hill also manages to seamlessly weave some sexy, passionate scenes into the storyline. Hill has once again proven her mettle as a writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put down!, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Wicked Ways (Hardcover)
One of the best sequels ever! It's been awhile since I read Getting Hers, but Wicked Ways continued on, with brief reminders of the previous book. Could there be a part 3 here? I don't want to give away anything, so I'll just say there are some characters I'd like to see reunite. Loved it!
