Stole the show away from Sevendust,
By
This review is from: Wicked Wisdom (Audio CD)
I recently saw these guys open up for Sevendust in Madison, WI and they absolutely stole the show. There were four opening bands, three of which were completely forgetable. At the time I knew nothing about them. To me they were just another opening band I had to sit through. It wasn't until the next day I found out who the singer is. I don't care if she is Will Smith's wife, they've been given nothing except a foot in the door. They're having to work their way up the ranks just like every other band out there. You might have an argument if she was no good, but she is. She can sing as well as any other metal singer, and she knows how to perform on stage like not many can. And to dismiss this band because of their association to Smith is to take a lot of credit away from the other musicians, who are nothing short of amazing. The guitarist as just as good as Slipknot's. And the drummer definitely knows his rhythms. Wicked Wisom absolutely stole the show from Sevendust who was completely flat and showing their age and total lack of hunger. Give them a shot and I think you'll really like them.

Good Job!,

I think that everyone else who rated this album were extremely harsh and a little rude. Give her a chance. She has potential and it's awesome that she's into this genre of music. She breaks the stereotypes and I think that in itself is a very bold and brave move on her part. I think it sounded great regardless of how "weak" or whatever everyone says her vocals are. Lots of people have first cds that aren't so great, but that doesn't mean there's not room for improvement. Apparently they were good enough for a record label to sign them! Rock on Jada!!!!

Inconsistent but well done.,

I think they've done a very good job considering they're new. Although they seem to know which direction they want to go, I recognized the sounds of other bands in them. For example, the song titled 'Don't Hate Me', reminds me of Evanessence's 'Wake Me Up'. I did like the second song, 'Something Inside of Me' because Jada sounds like she really means what she's saying...I myself feel that way about psychopath's preying on young girls. Some of the songs sound a bit contrived but I think if they stay true to who they are they'll do fine. I love the music in 'Forgiven' 'cause it shows they have a sound of their own. I tink they are awesome and deserve some credit.

I bought this just to add to my celebrity song collection, and wouldn't you believe it, there is actual substance to this album. I came in half expecting something akin to a celebrity book (75% ghostwritten/assisted), but I was wowed by the amount of heart and effort by Ms. Smith. The rigors of rock n' roll life may not mesh well with la vida Hollywood, but maybe this band can get by with minimal touring. Steely Dan is a good example of a studio band that doesn't really need to tour.
The track that stands out is "Something inside of Me". This album is light years ahead of "Body Count"!

4 * for the musicians, 2 * for jada = avg band,

I heard "something inside of me" on the radio a couple of weeks ago and decided at that time to purchase the cd when it was released. I really enjoyed the band throughout the cd, unfortunately, jada's vocals are weak in my opinion. It was a good attempt and I can tell she may have the rage and angst required to perform this style of music, but she doesn't have any vocal range.
I do want to mention that I really enjoy track #4, I can live with the vocals for this one.

Nice Try, I Guess...,

For those not in the know, Wicked Wisdom is the metal outfit formed by Jada Pinkett Smith (Will's wife). Wicked Wisdom have honed their craft opening for the likes of Papa Roach, Sevendust, Britney Spears (?) and most infamously, performing on 2005's Ozzfest. There has been a bit of hype about this release, and a wealth of controversy from serious listeners and/or metalheads, so I have to say, I was intrigued. I needed to hear what Jada and company were all about...
Let me just say, in the nicest way possible, one listen was enough for me. Now, let's set it straight here. I came in with an open mind. Not with the racist attitude that a lot of Ozzfest attendees seem to have held against her (go through the Blabbermouth archives and see for yourself). Nor was I upset about a rich Hollywood actress dipping into the metal scene (I couldn't care less). But the fact of the matter is, Jada just doesn't cut it as a strong metal frontwoman. Despite her strong and respectable messages, her vocals fall flat and are virtually unmoving. Jada is no doubt trying to inspire her listeners, but it doesn't work with such corny lyrics as the ones spread about here. The band does their job well, but they seem a bit faceless. Like they just pasted her voice over some group that got rejected from Victory or Metal Blade records. Throughout the album, I can't say I found one song that made me want to return. I guess you can say Jada just isn't cut out for this type of music. Maybe she would be better if she went a little lighter, which in turn would make her sound a little more genuine, down the Earth. I respect the woman. She's an intelligent lady and a good actress, but I can't exactly compliment her first music endeavour. Maybe it was rushed. Who knows. All I can say, with all due respect is: Don't quit your day job. Unless you're Will Smith, I doubt you'll be jumping in the mosh-pit for this one.

Female fronted rap-metal done properly,
By Metal_Head "Metal_Head" (South Coast) - See all my reviews

Firstly I can't think of any other metal bands fronted by a black woman so kudos for that. I may be wrong who know's. People are just dissing it coz it's big willies wife. You don't know what she's into she might have the biggest metal cd collection in the world and she could afford it too. This is for fans of otep, early kittie, tura satana & my ruin. If eighteen visions were fronted by a woman they'd sound similar to WW. Her vocals are great theres some brilliant druming & guitar work on here. If you're a fan of any of the above bands. Ignore peoples jealous remarks & check this out.

Exackly.....I'm not really a fan of heavymetal, but when I heard this whole CD, I was blown away by their rhythem arrangments, the vocal abilities...everything about the group is awesome. Initially, I bought her very first CD that had her back-up singers (good CD) and when this heavymetal tune came about, I was skeptical.....This cd is worth your hard earned dollars. They really got me into heavymetal music.
