more kinky than erotic...,

This review is from: Wicked Words: A Black Lace Short-Story Collection (Mass Market Paperback)
I have enjoyed many Black Lace books, and the first short story collection, but this collection of stories was primarily dealing with bondage and kinky stuff. Very little of it was romantic, and most of it was not even very erotic. I would recommend their earlier short story collections and novels, if you prefer more romantic erotica. My favorite novel from Black Lace Books, was The Captivation by Natasha Rostova; my favorite Black Lace short story collection was Sugar and Spice.

I have read a few Black Lace books and really would recommend this to anyone thinking of trying them. There are some great stories, I really liked The Bargain by Kathryn Anne Dubois, and Lepidoptera by Helena Ravenscroft and would look for books by them again. Some of the stories were not to my taste, but then I think maybe that that shows what a big variety there is in there! Really hot reading and I would definitely say that my partner benefited too!!!!!

This review is from: Wicked Words 9: An Erotic Short Story Collection (Vol 9) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read my share of erotic anthologies and was completely delighted by this one. Almost every story surprised me in terms of not just erotic content but also the grasp of short story writing. This collection of stories is so much better than books like Best Women's Erotica, for instance. Several well-known writers of erotica are included here, which was nice, too.

I had my favorites but it is so varied and so many stories that you can't miss with this collection and I have read all of Black Lace's short story collections so far. Very erotic and arousing with some pure fun and romance mixed in. I would have preferred more bondage though and male dominance themes, the ones there (Kritina Lloyd and Kathryn Dubois) were great though.

The novels are definitely better (2 1/2 stars)...,

I'd heard great things about Black Lace's short story collections. I picked up Wicked Words 9 and hoped for the best. The good thing about this collection of erotic short stories is that most of the stories have quite good characterization and palpable situations, something that seldom happens in short story erotica. My favorites are "Man's Best Friend," "Smooth Hands, Soft Lips, Sharp Teeth," "Charlotte Meets Her Match," and "Caught You!" Each one of the aforementioned stories is original, inventive and insatiable. While I wouldn't say that I cared about the characters in the stories, they were at lest interesting. I've never heard of the authors who wrote those stories, and I must admit that I had hoped to encounter at least one of my favorite Black Lace authors, but they did an excellent job. The rest of the stories in this anthology, however, fall short in more ways than one. They just weren't interesting or gripping enough. All in all, I'd rather read a Black Lace novel than another installment of Wicked Words.
