bruce is back pt1,

This review is from: Wicker Man 1 (Audio CD)
It's been eight years since a new song with Bruce Dickinson has been released. Wait no more. The Wicker Man is here. This song brings back memories of the Maiden of old. Anyone who enjoys Iron Maiden or used to, ought to listen to this single. Now,on to the live tracks of this cd.Man on the Edge is great with Bruce at the helm, however, the sound quality isn't as clean as the other live track is, but still captures the essence of the song. Powerslave is wonderfully redone with the three guitar makeover, however,no intro, oh well. Overall, a great listen for Maiden fans. The video on the enhanced cd is pretty cool but this review is about the music. A cleaner Man on the Edge and the intro to Powerslave would have given it the 5 stars, so I'll settle for 4 out of 5.

Great Song!,

I heard this song on the radio late one night, and was instantly blown away. What a great song! I've never been much of a Maiden fan, but when "Brave New World" comes out, I may have to give it a listen. Check out "Wickerman", it rules!

The power is back!Mr. Bruce Dickinson definetely is the best frontman that Iron Maiden has ever had! The Wickerman is just amazing! The lyrics, the rhythm and Mr. Adrian Smith doing a wonderful solo are the reasons to buy this single! There is also Man on the Edge, wich sounded very good with Bruce Dickinson on the vocals. And also there is powerslave...oh,yeah...the eternal classic written by Dickinson!

what single???,

Am i the only one who realizes that the opening riff to Wickerman is basically the opening riff to Priest's "Running Wild?" (from Hell Bent for Leather, 1978) Anyone really into British metal should've picked up on this, but all i read are great reviews of Wickerman. Furthermore, maiden fans should know that the "original" Wickerman on Bruce's 2 CD set is far heavier and lyrically true to Stephen King's vision. Say what you want about the "comeback" album Brave New World, but recognize the opener for the weak song it is. And you would think that a reunion tour would feature a classic maiden opener instead of this song. Yes, i did see the show and still thought all 3 guitars were inaudible.

Nice, but the band is overrated...,

Now listen, I think that this is a good song. Great vocals, pretty-good riffs, pretty good lyrics. Just a great song. But there is a big problem I have wtih them. Iron Maiden sound a lot like some of those garbage hair-(so-called)metal bands that don't even riff (I mean they riff, but it's not nearly heavy enough for your average Godsmack fan). I mean, what kind of metalhead are you if you listen to that stuff? Oh well. This might convince me all the way into their music. I don't like the fact that they have, what? SIX bandmembers???? I think that you have to have very little talent to have that many bandmembers (doesn't work with Slipknot in case you could complain. All of their equipment is nesscessary making them near-perfect. ). But I like this song. From what I've heard from the album "Killers", it just doesn't sound like anything that Metallica or Slayer could whip up easily and have it well-done in about a month or so. Although this song is addictive and well-done, it is not comparable to other songs like Metallica's "One", Tool's "Parabol/Parabola", or Slayer's "Raining Blood". No;Not possible. I enjoy this band, but if you compare them to something like Tool or Slayer, Iron Maiden are nothing. It's probably becuase I'm not a huge fan of music like theirs that I think this. That's all I can say. I know that all of you are going to say that I'm unhelpful and vote me as that, but I don't care. It'll only be becuase you like this song, so what are you going to do about it??? Nothing. There is no chance that I will lose any sleep at night at the thought that you hate what I've said. But would it help a little bit if I were to remind you you that I DO enjoy this band? Maybe...Anyway, If you were to buy "Brave New World for any reason, buy it for this song, although it mught not be worth it. I qould recommend that you get Tool's "Lateralus". It's much better. Ok. goodbye... OH! I was going to give this 3 stars, but it's a SINGLE FOR CRYING OUT LOAD!! WHAT GOOD IS A SINGLE WITH NOT MANY FEATURES THAT WOULD INTEREST ME????? Plus, I don't like that people think this band is so "excellent" so that made me erase another one. |
