5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny. Our favorite book!
Pop-up books are a great way to get kids interested in reading. My son is 5 and will be entering Kindergarten soon and he hasn't taken to reading on his own much. When I noticed how much he enjoyed the flip tab and pop up books, I went crazy on Amazon ordering all I could find that might be of interest to him. While I have found many that are great and educational, this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Clever and inventive, but scary for a toddler
I've always loved pop up books, so I bought this for my 2 year old grandson. I found it fun, clever and inventive, but my grandson found it a little scary. Perhaps would be better for an older child.

While I have found many that are great and educational, this book has to be the funniest. It doesn't really have any educational content, but my 5-year-old asks for it almost every night. This book is only a few pages so I don't mind reading it along with another book. The first time we read it, and of course added some original character voices, we both laughed for a good two minutes. He now has it memorized and likes to do the voices for the charaters(so cute).

Brief Synopsis: The frog is a very curious one and he enjoys asking other animals what they eat, after boasting, "I'm a wide mouth frog and I eat flies." After asking a bird and mouse, he runs into an alligator that seems to be interested in him. The pop ups are great and the end is a huge payoff "SPLASH"! I say it's a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Twins' Favorite Book, August 1, 2005
This review is from: The Wide-Mouthed Frog (A Pop-Up Book) (Library Binding)
Absolutely loved, loved, loved this book - my husband brought it home after a business trip when our boy/girl twins were just six weeks old, and by the time they were a year old, it was one of their most favorite books...and remained so, for several years. The illustrations really come to life with these amazing pop-ups, and the huge "Splash!" at the end always sent the kids into giggles. Eight years later, I purchased another copy of the book to send to my brother's baby boy - and he loves it just as much as his cousins always did. I highly recommend this book for anyone with children aged anywhere around 10 months - 4 years, and even older!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wide Mouth Frog by Keith Faulkner, September 12, 2005
This review is from: The Wide-Mouthed Frog (A Pop-Up Book) (Library Binding)
This beautifully illustrated and well written book has brought new and colorful language to special children with little to no language. They asked me for "The Wide Mouth Frog". Thanks for your prompt attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, May 7, 2000

This is the book that helped my five-month old become an avid book lover. She is now seven months and she taps on the cover of the book whenever she wants me to read it with her (which happens about 30 times a day). The text is wonderful for mimicking the different animals and the book allows creativity during the reading process using the pop ups. When my baby cries, I usually pick up the book and she starts smiling instantly, excited about the prospect of reading it again. Now she shows an incredible interest in books of all kinds, curious about what treasures they hide.

I do Preschool (3-5 years) and Mother Goose (6 months to 2 years) storytimes at the public library where I work. This book is one of my very favorites but more importantly it's also one of my kid's favorites. Yes, you have to do the voices of the animals! The pop-ups are great. This is one of my favorites of all the many pop-ups I own. Keith Faulkner's other pop-ups are good too, especially when he teams up with Jonathan Lambert. In fact, Faulkner is my favorite pop-up author and I wish I could get him to come to my library. (I think he lives in England.) Even though this one is his best, don't stop here. Get more pop-ups by him.

5.0 out of 5 stars wide mouthed frog makes us pucker, April 28, 2004

Both my children 3 1/2 and 2 love this book. The 2 year old can't listen to it enough. The 3 1/2 year old likes picking out words she knows and telling us what they are. They both imitate the frog catching flies. At the end, they both laugh when the frog puckers his mouth. We read it with a deep voice when he's being a wide-mouthed frog and pucker our own mouths and give him a high voice when he's narrowly escaping the jaws of the alligator. We all laugh out loud! Great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Voted Best Book by Glenn and Reed, April 17, 2000
This review is from: The Wide-Mouthed Frog (A Pop-Up Book) (Library Binding)
This wonderful book is my 16 month-old twins' absolute FAVORITE story and has been for quite some time. I have to admit that it's probably my favorite book to read to them too, since I can make the delighful pop-up animals appear to speak while I'm reading their lines in silly character voices. My boys always start to smile and reach to turn the pages in anticipation of the big "SPLASH" at the end of the book, and they make me open that page over and over again. This book has become the gift I give to all one year-olds celebrating their birthdays. I'm so glad to see that it's no longer out of print!
