Born in 1958, Gus G. Widmayer of Groton, Massachusetts, is known locally as both businessman and news correspondent. His signature column is "Gus on Groton," which has appeared in the Groton Landmark since April 8, 2011. Widmayer was born August 24th at No. 142 George Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, fourth of the five children of Francis J. Widmayer, Jr. (1929-2011) and Gertrude Marie (Catanese) (1930-2008). The house was also his mother's birthplace and childhood home to his maternal grandfather.
