This actually was quite good. I wasn't expecting much from a Harlequin, but it surprised me. The secondary story with Hugh and Meg was actually quite funny. Ebony and Alex didn't quite have the chemistry that the other couple had. I did like the way the author wrote the initial love scenes as though the heroine were dreaming. 2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this, but.....
The fact the the hero used coercion to get the heroine into his bed, has definitely soured this book for me. To me, this is very close to rape, even though, when it came to the act she was willing. He used her fear for her son, knowing that she thought they were lawless raiders, and therefore making a bargain with him, to (as I see it) force her to have sex with with him...

Ebony and Alex didn't quite have the chemistry that the other couple had. I did like the way the author wrote the initial love scenes as though the heroine were dreaming. The denial felt more realistic than if Ebony had just jumped in without any qualms. There were no great surprises but this was a very pleasant read.

This review is from: The Widow's Bargain (Harlequin Historical) (Kindle Edition)
The fact the the hero used coercion to get the heroine into his bed, has definitely soured this book for me. To me, this is very close to rape, even though, when it came to the act she was willing. He used her fear for her son, knowing that she thought they were lawless raiders, and therefore making a bargain with him, to (as I see it) force her to have sex with with him. JL tends to have her heroes as the very strong VERY silent types, so it wasn't too surprising that we didn't know his feelings, but I was very disappointed to read that his first thoughts of marriage were AFTER their first sexual encounter. I just couldn't like either of them very much. So I found it easy to put the book down, and in fact struggled to finish it. I just didn't care all that much how it worked out for them....

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy medieval!!, April 3, 2006
Medieval romances are my favorite. The Widow's Bargain is one of the best I've read. Great story, accurate and interesting historical setting, complex characters and VERY steamy and plentiful love scenes! This one is a keeper.

Please keep writing them like this Ms. Landon!!!
