Wonderfully old-fashioned English folk,

This review is from: Widow's Promise (Audio CD)
Songwriter Mick Ryan is a delightful "trad" artist, a clever, skillful songwriter and singer who takes his cues from Britfolk forerunners such as Nic Jones, Peter Bellamy and Ewan Maccoll. This disc is a wonderful reissue, collecting material from Ryan and Harris's first two albums, "Drink Up The Sun" and "Another Place, Another Time." It opens with the delightfully bawdy title track (a new original that sounds centuries old), this disc will be a treat for those who enjoy the new-songs-through-an-old-filter approach of the hypertraditionalist wing of the British folk scene... Guitarist Pete Harris's quiet, stately accompaniment is spot-on perfection. Highly recommended; also worth tracking down are their various albums on the Wild Goose Studios label.
