5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for younger widows
As a young 25 yr old widow, I highly recommend this book. While some may not be able to handle some of the humor early on in their grief process, it does provide a more realistic approach to widowhood for those under 60. There were several chapters in the book filled with information that I wish I knew when I first became widowed. The chapter about the paperwork was...

As a young 25 yr old widow, I highly recommend this book. While some may not be able to handle some of the humor early on in their grief process, it does provide a more realistic approach to widowhood for those under 60. There were several chapters in the book filled with information that I wish I knew when I first became widowed. The chapter about the paperwork was one that widows should know about. It is very overwhelming dealing with the paperwork and companies will take advantage of you during this time. Overall, I would recommend this book to a young widow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Review - Widows Wear Stilettos, January 11, 2009

Obviously, by it's title alone, it's clear this is a book for girls only... While I commend what she is attempting to do with this book the honor of her endeavor becomes a bit lost in the many references to herself as a "Diva Goddess" and the repeated mention of 4 inch heels, both of which pushed me not toward endearment, but quite the contrary (I spent quite a bit of time mentally rolling my eyes).

The good: Chapters such as "The Firsts, Part 1', which deals with those firsts we all have to face from birthdays and holidays, to anniversaries, etc., "The Firsts, Part 2', which largely deals with the issue of the first date/love interest/serious relationship, etc. in a serious manner, and "When Both Mommy & Daddy Are You" which discusses exactly what it's title denotes. She has a good amount of advice on dealing with whom she refers to as "Everybody Else", which I found to be pretty on point. However, contrary to what is written in the publishers description, the issue of in-laws, which can be a major point of topic among many young widows (from how to deal with them without a peacemaker, to how to tell them you're dating) is a tiny blip on her Manolo hoofed radar.

Bottom line, if you are looking for a quick read (you could do this on a long flight, or long Sunday afternoon) and you are not new to grief, you might want to consider picking this up. I would not personally recommend this book for the newly bereaved however. Of course, if you know of a newly bereaved young widow you'd like to share the book with, you could always mark out the relevant chapters for her in her early stages of grief, and suggest she read the rest when she was ready.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what she needed!, April 27, 2010
This review is from: Widows Wear Stilettos: A Practical and Emotional Guide for the Young Widow (Paperback)
My daughter of 24 became a very young widow almost four months ago. She has a baby, now 1 1/2 years old. It is difficult to lose a loved one at any age, but at 24, with a small child and crazy in love with her husband, her first few months were so difficult. Each day, you just go through the motions to get through another day. Act happy, baby depends on it. No time to grieve, the world does not stop for you. As a mother of a young widow, you want to step in and do everything, take care of everything, make everything alright again. Sadley, it is not possible. While I was trying to locate a book on grief and the stages she was going through I came across this book. As a lover of heels, it caught my attention. After glancing through it, I was delighted to find a book for the "Young Widow". This book has done so much for her. It has lifted her spirits, answered questions no one had answers to, and gave her timetables as to what she would feel and different stages of moving on.

Needless to say, she has talked about this book to her Hospice Counselor several times and has now given away her copy. I am online to purchase another for her and multiples for Hospice for future young widows who find themselves looking for answers that most people can not provide. Excellent book. It has made such a huge difference for my daughter! Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A self-help guide for those who have been widowed at a young age, March 13, 2009
This review is from: Widows Wear Stilettos: A Practical and Emotional Guide for the Young Widow (Paperback)
Widows are suppose to be women who are old and gray, not people in the prime of their lives. "Widows Wear Stilettos: A Practical and Emotional Guide for The Young Widow" is a self-help guide for those who have been widowed at a young age. With the recent conflicts in the Middle East, there has been a rise in young widows in recent years. When separated so early, these men and women face a special challenge, unsure of how to move on and live the long duration of the rest of their lives. "Widows Wear Stilettos" is a must for anyone who has faced the tragedy of losing a spouse before they've become middle aged.

I am a young 34 year old widow. This book helped answer some of those not mentioned questions in other books. Very helpful, written beautifully and would recommend this book to any unforunate widow out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is like getting a hug, July 27, 2010

I bought this book as a "young" widow of 59. It not only covered the basic info on greif but also gave me the encouragement to handle things as they came along.
Carol is able to make jokes without being hurtfull and leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling. I also bought the CD and have listened to it off and on over the past 3 years. I highly recommend this for any widow and frequently give it as a gift to my friends in need.

5.0 out of 5 stars my pillar, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Widows Wear Stilettos: A Practical and Emotional Guide for the Young Widow (Paperback)
I was widowed when I was only 26 years old. I was lost. Then, I stumbled on a review for the book "Widows Wear Stilettos". I ordered a copy immediately. This book helped me find footing again...I learned that it was okay to grieve how I needed to grieve instead of how everyone else thought I should. Thanks to Carole and her wonderful book, I have been able to network with other women dealing with what I am. This book is a wonderful staple in any widow's life. I would definitely recommed it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, May 25, 2010

I was widowed about 2 years ago and finally found this book! It probably would have helped a lot during the early times as far as discussing the legal/paperwork issues as well as how awful people can be to you with what they say!

I found that a lot of the book was more applicable to me now, being 2 years out. Especially regarding dating, your relationship with your in-laws, etc.

Overall, I found this book very helpful. In fact, I found a WWS group on Facebook and have been truly welcomed to their "club." I know it is a club that none of us want to be in, but somehow it makes me feel not so alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic info, okay writing, October 31, 2009

The chapter on necessary papers is the most useful. The rest of the book is standard advice for anyone who has gone through a tramatic situation. Try not to make any major life decisions for a year, follow your own time table (when lots of people may be pushy about what they think you should do and when), and take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She also talks about dating again - if you're young, hopefully that will happen! - and how people, including the people you date, may react.

The writing is basic, the personal stories not that revealing, and the copy editing is so-so. If you are looking for yet another book to read because that's what you need, this one is fine. It's just isn't great. If you are buying only one or two books, this probably shouldn't be one of them.
