5.0 out of 5 stars Another Terrific Bible Study Guide from Dr. Wiersbe!, April 26, 2010
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
`The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: It's Always Too Soon to Quit' is Dr. Warren Wierbe's Bible Study Guide covering 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon

Here is the biography of Dr. Wiersbe [...] from the back cover:

Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe is an internationally known Bible teacher and the former pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago. For ten years he was associated with the Back to the Bible radio broadcast, first as Bible teacher and then as general director. He has written more than 160 books, including the "BE" series of Bible commentaries (of which `Be Authentic' is one), which have sold more than four million copies. He and his wife, Betty, live in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Here is the description of the study from the back cover:

The Christian life is not easy. Whether we're walking out our faith, sharing the gospel, or helping in ministry, we can become discouraged as we strive to live in Christ. The apostle Paul understood that believers would always face challenges, obstacles, and setbacks. The books of 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon offer a wealth of encouragement for every Christian and share an underlying, powerful theme: Never give up!

In the Introduction, Dr. Wiersbe provides an interesting observation on the Pauline epistles included in this Bible Study Guide:

Paul used the Greek word pistos ("faithful") at least seventeen times in these three letters. The theme runs through each chapter: Be faithful in the Word, be faithful to your task, be faithful to the people to whom you minister. God is faithful! But don't get the idea that the Pastoral Epistles are only for pastors and other "full-time Christian workers." These three letters are for every Christian, every church member.
I have added a chapter on Philemon because what Paul wrote to him fits right into the theme of this study. Philemon faced a difficult problem with his runaway slave, Onesimus, and Paul's counsel encouraged Philemon to be faithful to the Lord in solving that problem.
As you study these letters, I want to help you understand the ministry of the local church and also encourage you to stick with it! If you and I are faithful to the tasks God has given us, then His work will prosper and His name will be glorified. Could we ask for more? (p. 7)

I don't think we can ask for more! All of us probably need improvement in the areas of encouragement and perseverance - overcoming obstacles. The Bible is the perfect place to learn those truths, and Dr. Wiersbe, with his servant's heart and wealth of knowledge, is the perfect teacher to guide us along on that journey.

This book also provides sections on `Going Deeper,' in which excerpts from Dr. Wiersbe's expositional commentary on these four epistles, `Be Faithful.' He also brings in information from history books.

Dr. Wiersbe's discussion/reflection questions are always very insightful. Here's one from Lesson 7: Last Word, covering 2 Timothy 3-4:

Paul challenges Timothy to preach the word and "be prepared in season and out of season" for Christ's return. In what way is Paul's charge to Timothy applicable to your own life? What does it look like, practically speaking, to be prepared for Christ's return? How can you "keep your head in all situations? (p. 106)
I would highly recommend `The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: It's Always Too Soon to Quit' for personal or group study. My life/small group through our church is currently studying Dr. Wiersbe's `Be Free: Exchange Legalism for True Spirituality,' which studies the book of Galatians. We are learning a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for a small group study, April 1, 2010
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
I've been working through a new Bible study book from David C. Cook Publishing. It's a part of the Wiersbe Bible Study Series. I received a copy of the study book for 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon to review. This book is divided into 8 lessons and one bonus lesson, each one focusing on one to three chapters in the Bible. I am about three fourths of the way through the study and have been doing it in addition to my daily devotions at my own pace. Each lesson includes several questions about the text, opportunities to process and reflect on what you've read, plenty of space to answer questions and write notes, as well as excerpts from the Be Faithful commentary companion for the study. While having a copy of the commentary would make for a more complete study, I have been doing the study without it and it is definitely not required.

The study addresses topics like church leadership, being faithful and accountable to your church, and pressing on for the cause of Christ. There's no perfect church and this study looks at pressing on even when there are issues. It's an encouraging look at the big picture. This would be a great book for a small group study!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always a great reference material, March 24, 2010
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit!" by Warren Wiersbe, is a 128 page addition it appears for the "Be Faithful" book, and although it could work as a standalone there is some difficulty with passages that requested reading from the "Be Faithful" book that made it a bit difficult to really, work as a standalone guide.

A short, but what appears to be an indepth study, there are getting Started questions, and a going deeper sections that for the reader, helps examine the scriptures provided, however, as mention, this is not a book, I would recommend trying alone or in a study group, without the accompanying "Be Faithful".

This does not detract however for those who are familiar with Warren Wiersbe's work, that he is a strong encourager in really breaking down scriptures and drawing readers in to learning and understanding more about the bible and as always for the serious student of the Bible, any work by Wiersbe, is a great addition to the reference/study library of any home or church

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Bible study greatly adds to Be series, February 23, 2010
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, & Philemon: It's Always too Soon to Quit is a must read addition to Wiersbe Be series. I've read several volumes in the Be series, and this encourages readers to go much deeper in their understanding of Scripture. I do wish that I had had Be Faithful to read along with it, the reader doesn't get as much of Wiersbe's thoughtful commentary as I would like. However, this guide asks readers to read a chapter or two of the assigned books and then has several questions that will make readers dig deep and think hard about the Scripture. Wiersbe's studies are unparalleled at making the Bible fresh and personal for each reader. I can't stop singing the praises of this book and the rest of the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you in leadership?, February 22, 2010
By
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
This short 8 lesson bible study packs a lot of information and encourages deep thought. Although these books of the Bible appear to be focused mostly on how the leaders of the church should behave, they also apply to the average member at large. The study could be done by anyone, the wording is easy to understand, but the questions could also develop into a very deep exploration of your basic beliefs and behaviours. The study could be done alone or in a small group. I did find that I felt at a disadvantage since I didn't have the "Be Faithful" commentary book which was referred to throughout study. Although one could use the study without the commentary I do recommend that the commentary be available, especially for groups. I recommend this study for those who wish to be or are already in leadership positions anywhere, church or not, and who wish to really delve into their beliefs and feelings and whether or not they are actually following the teachings of Jesus or following legalistic rules developed by society or the church at large.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Meaty" but not overwhelming, February 15, 2010
This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
The Wiersbe Bible Study Series books can be used either individually or for small group studies. Each lesson has Getting Started questions, as well as a Going Deeper section which helps the reader break down and dissect each portion of scripture being studied.

I like that these books are very manageable, not overwhelming in depth, and that you can work at your own pace without feeling rushed. These books are "meaty" yet not intimidating, and very easy to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Encouraging Bible Study, February 6, 2010

This review is from: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon: It's Always Too Soon to Quit! (Paperback)
First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to Warren Wiersbe and his publisher for sending me a copy of this amazing Bible study to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, and I am trying to improve at being consistent in taking the time to thank these wonderfully giving individuals in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me.

When I first signed up for this book promoting blog tour, I thought it was a study of Proverbs. It had been a while since I'd studied the Old Testament tome of wisdom, so I was really jazzed. I was anticipating a fresh outlook and new insight from Warren Wiersbe, but this was not to be. What arrived in the mail was still a study in The Wiersbe Bible Study Series, but instead of the book of Proverbs, I discovered that I would be studying the New Testament books of 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. Initially, I was confused. Why did I receive THIS book? Then when I realized it was a replacement for the book I was expecting, I was a bit disappointed. But the let down didn't last long. I quickly realized that I was given the opportunity to study four books instead of one, and rapidly became engrossed in the material.

Wiersbe's studies are educational, enjoyable and life-changing if you apply the principles you learn while dissecting the Word of God. They are good guides for travels through the Bible, and I recommend this study series to individuals and groups, alike. This study contains eight lessons, loads of snippets from Wiersbe's commentary, and thoughtful questions to encourage the student in perseverance.
