Embryo - 'Weisbaden 1972' (Garden Of Delights),
By
This review is from: Wiesbaden 1972 (Audio CD)
As to any of you who might have read my many CD reviews here on Amazon, it's obvious that I'm a huge 'live album' nut. I simply love how today that more and more long-running bands (some that still exist, others that do not) break down and 'dip' into their personal archive stash of live recordings and release them (such as this title) to their loyal fans. Show took place on December 17, 1972 at the Wartburg - a concert venue in Wiesbaden, Germany. Sound quality here is brilliant - truly showcases this experimental / krautrock band's talent. Almost felt like I was at the concert myself - with the somewhat tribal opener "Ouverture Marimbasaz", the rocking "Sunrising", "Dieter Plays", the intricate piece "Space To No Place To Go", "Andalucia Si" and the progressive {in every sense of the word} "Master Plan Of Pharoa". Happen to notice these six songs run together so extremely well, that I couldn't tell where one tune ends and the next one begins. To me (at least) that was the actual performance. But there's more - the twenty-one minute fusion masterpiece "Pygmaen Uberall / Back From Africa" and the bonus track, the twelve-minute jazzy "Clockwork Blue". Every bit as out-standing as another similar release of theirs on the Garden of Delights label 'Bremen 1971'. So highly recommended, it makes my head hurt.
