2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Not One of Jacqueline Baird's Better Ones...
I'm a huge fan of some of JB's books, but believe me, this isn't 1 of 'em! The whole storyline's quite unrealistic even by romance book standard, & the hero seems quite 1 dimensional, insensitive, & cruel until near the very end! If U want a really good one by this author, try "Marriage at His Convenience" or "The Reluctant Fiancee"!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Romance Junkie, November 27, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Solo saw Penny for the first time in a magazine at the wedding of her father and stepmother. When he finally met her in person he knew she was the one for him. The only problem was that Penny was barely nineteen to his thirty-two... Penny fell in love with Solo at first sight but it was a bumpy ride and I enjoyed every moment. This book was really good and I recommend it highly.

This review is from: Wife: Bought and Paid For (Wedlocked!) (Mass Market Paperback)
Young virgin heroine is quickly attracted to wealthy & attractive Italian Hero who was drawn to her upon seeing a picture of her in a magazine & sees her as his perfect wife. When she overhears his motives for marrying her, she's hurt & decides to reject him by letting him think she has another BF. Four years later, she feels pressured to marry him as way of keeping her family estate, when she finds out Hero half owns it & realizes she still loves him but can't let him know for fear of being hurt & betrayed again.

Love books that evoke intense emotions like this one. It was a fast read. The romance was good. I liked how Hero & heroine were portrayed with strengths & flaws & how they wrestle with these 2 dimensions. Sexual chemistry & love scenes were good.

Highly recommended if looking for a short but good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marriage or Bankruptcy?, May 7, 2003

This review is from: Wife: Bought and Paid For (Wedlocked!) (Mass Market Paperback)
Solo Maffeiano is a self-made man who has it all--looks, money, and prestige. Penelope Haversham, who lives with her family in their decrepit mansion, is a young woman devoted to her family. After seeing Penny's picture in a magazine, Solo was instantly attracted to her. When he finally gets a chance to meet her face-to-face, he's knows she is the only one for him. After the death of her parents, years later, a more mature Penny comes to term with the fact that she must sell her home in order to pay inheritance tax but what she did not know was that Solo owns half of her mansion.

Penny is great character who is smart, strong and full of love. Solo, who is much older than her, is as tough as they come. He's lonely, fears rejection, and try's his best to fight the feelings Penny stir in him. This couple gets a second chance but is Solo ready to put his heart on the line, this time? Is he willing to admit that it takes more than chemistry to make a marriage work? Great love story, you will not be able to put it down.
