5.0 out of 5 stars Just so much fun
Karen Quinn has a very special sense of humor. I loved "The Ivy Chronicles;" her new book has the same outrageous fun. And, yes, I could not put it down.

2.0 out of 5 stars can't believe the 5 star reviews
This book was on the bargain basement shelf at the bookstore. It looked somewhat interesting so I did a quick amazon check on its reviews on my iphone at the store, saw several glowing comments and bought it. What a waste of $3.99! I think the people who gave this 5 stars really don't read good fiction much. The writing style is so simplistic, not to mention contrived...

Wife In The Fast Lane was a great read...I highly recommend for your vacation this spring or summer! It's one of those books you just don't want to put down. The journey of the main character has you so eager to read on. Such a fun read for all wives, mothers and busy working women!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Uplifting, April 3, 2007
After a bad fall recently and losing my job, I found this book to be very uplifting. It has made me smile again and was just what I needed. An easy to read book and very enjoyable. I think Karen did a great job and I can't wait for her next book. You Go Girl! Thanks once again for a enlightening, uplifting and terrific read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read!, March 28, 2007
This is a great book to read on your way to a vacation--or business trip (and, of course, while you're there!)! The characters are "real," and will stay with you. I love the "can't put it down" feeling, and this book certainly gave me that! THANKS and ENJOY!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adopted Daughter Theme Had Me in Tears, February 25, 2008
By
Read this months ago, but just recommended it to a mother with pre-teen daughter issues to help her realize she's not alone. Basically the story is: New York City big shot with own company finds herself overwhelmed by real life when romance turns into commitment and a surprise child package falls into her lap. Nasty moms picking on our heroine at the private school; exotic neighbors have curious pets; and surprise relations just might have to live with us. I thought it was an entertaining, original hoot! A sly testimonial for working women of a certain professional class or aspirants from one who's obviously been there, done that. Breezy enough to read on the bus or the beach.

Originally I read the book because I saw the author at a writer's conference and the whole room fell madly in love with her. She's a tiny, perky redhead who had us all roaring with laughter. I keep watching for her as a "lifestyle expert" (with a fresh point of view on being an urban working mom) on talk shows, but no luck yet. I probably don't watch enough daytime TV.

(To Amazon editor: I posted an earlier version of this three or four days ago, but maybe it got lost, so here it is again, a bit cleaned up and shorter. This draft is better. Delete this note of course. Love, Janet)

5.0 out of 5 stars This was such a fun read--great second book from Karen Quinn!, December 5, 2007
I finally got a chance to read Ms. Quinn's second book, Wife in the Fast Lane, on a recent vacation. What fun! Ms. Quinn has a genuine knack for writing in a fast-paced, colorful and suspenseful style that always keeps you turning the page. Like her first book, The Ivy Chronicles, Wife gives you a peek into the lives of the swanky elite of NYC. As a former resident of NYC's Upper East Side (though not part of the elite), it's a special guilty pleasure to read about the often embarrassing trials and tribulations of these well-heeled folks, even when fictionalized. I definitely recommend picking up Wife in the Fast Lane--I guarantee you'll have a fun time reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Read!!!, April 3, 2007
How fun was this book!!!! I started and could not put it down - pulled an all nighter just to find out the ending. Love the characters - you could have characters in your life like this!!! If you love Ivy Chronicles you will love this one also. Just can't wait for the next book. Maybe Ivy and Christy can meet in the next one :)

5.0 out of 5 stars What Fun!, April 25, 2007
I so enjoyed Karen Quinn's WIFE IN THE FAST LANE. The characters were so delightful AND memorable. With the quirky, unexpected ending, I found the story delicious and screaming for a screenplay. I would love to see these characters in a major film. Especially the funny little critter at the end...read the book....you'll see!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow Start, June 24, 2007

While I found it a bit difficult to relate to the main character, Christy, I liked the book. Perhaps it's that I'm neither an Olympic champion or a CEO, but she seemed like a paper doll or caricature of a character, especially in the beginning - but I think that was what the author intended. I initially didn't know if I'd finish the book, but it eventually drew me in.

The "voice" I most enjoyed was that of Renata. The storyline about Renata gave the book the humor, the richness and the emotional draw that made the book more engaging and appealing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wife in the Fast Lane - read it in one breath!, December 30, 2010
I picked up the book because its review on the back cover grabbed my attention. And I feel very lucky to have found it and read it! What a great, easy, entertaining, interesting, intriguing, and eye-opening experience! I recommend it to any woman in any social status/relationship status with or w/o children!

I have a son who is 2, I go to school part-time for my MBA (to be done in 1 semester now!), am a wife of a wonderful 'Michael' of my own (minus the mogul status in society), and am a career woman as well in one of the Best 100 Fortune companies to work for in the US. Let me tell you, reading this book felt very close to 'home' and at the same time so far away due to all the glamour and money Christy has at her disposal (and to enjoy). However, she is so down to earth, logical, sensitive woman who is constantly looking for and fighting love, lust, good education for her child, an affair her husband was involved with, the harsh reality of corporate management, and trophy wives.

I feel I can accomplish anything after reading this book. Being a mother, a wife, a student and a business woman has made it very hard to have time for myself only which is what this book is about - finding one's path in life and standing up for what you want and believe in with your heart. The main character has some inner demons to fight as I do as well but reading this book made me realize I have been 'closing' my eyes for all the things that matter to me and my husband in our marriage (yes, like looks and attraction as well as love and respect). I think we are starting to fall in the category of 'married now so why bother work out' couple group! This book made me realize that the ring on the finger is no guarantee for a happy long marriage - it is the dedication, love, appreciation, and hard work that goes into the 'marriage pot' to make it work.

Enjoy reading this wonderful book! I am craving more pages of the Wife in the Fast Lane but that's all for now.

I hope the author takes us on a Renata/Ali joirney and more of Baby G (maybe Renata would follow in Christy's footsteps and take it over when she graduates?) :-)
