Book Description

1999
Millionaire rancher Jack Remington hadn't expected trouble when he flew to Palm Beach for his sister's engagement ball. But his girlfriend called it quits and now his sister is anxious to meet the woman who's captured his heart. Then, a beguiling, flame-haired enchantress breezes into his hotel room with a tux and a seductive smile, and Jack's sure his troubles have come to an end. All he has to do is hire the beautiful tailor to be his fiancee--for just one night.

Samantha Jones is sure the sexy cowboy is out of his ever--lovin' mind. She's never been to a ball, never worn a fancy gown, and has no idea how to act like a socialite. She can't possibly pose as his wife-to-be. But trouble's been following Sam for too many months and the money Jack's offering is something she can't refuse. There's only one problem--their pretend kisses make her feel something very real--and there's the possibility that just one night will never be enough.

Amazon.com Review

Setting: West Palm Beach, Florida, and Wyoming, present day
Sensuality rating: 7

Samantha Jones's life just can't get much worse. Freshly fired from her tailoring job, she's living in her ancient VW bug, owes a loan shark thousands for her prostitute mother's funeral, and last--but surely not least--is staring at a big ol' hunk of a millionaire cowboy dressed in nothing but a black silk thong who wants her to pretend to be his fiancée for the night. (Okay, maybe that part's not so bad.) Jack Remington--the big ol' hunk in question--isn't having a great day, either. The airlines lost his luggage, including the tuxedo he needs to wear to a party for his beloved baby sister's engagement to a polo-playing playboy; his fiancée called off their engagement; and the tall, buxom woman with wild, red hair standing in his hotel room holding his new tux has just told him maybe his underwear need to be altered! Only an author of Patti Berg's caliber can turn this inauspicious beginning into a match made in heaven. Jack's sister is so happy to see him finally settling down that he just can't bring himself to tell her that his wealthy, successful fiancée dumped him and the woman with him at the engagement party is a fraud. So Jack makes Sam an offer she can't refuse--pretend to be his fiancée for just a little while longer and he'll pay off her debt to Johnnie Russo, West Hollywood's toughest creditor. But Sam and Jack both find their make-believe romance too easy to believe and too hard to let go. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll root for this seemingly mismatched couple to make theirs the love of a lifetime. --Alison Trinkle --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This was my first Patti Berg novel, and it will definately NOT be my last. I fell in love with Jack myself! And Samantha Jones has to be one of the best characters I've read in a long time. She is smart, honest, hard working and a pure romantic at heart. If your looking for a romance to get completely lost in for a while, look no further. "Wife For a Day" is just the ticket ! Note to Patti Berg... Any chance of Lauren Remington getting her shot at a happy ending ?

4.0 out of 5 stars This book made me Laugh!!!!, October 3, 2000
This was my first Patti Berg book, but I can definately say that it won't be my last. I found her to be a refreshing writer who writes what she knows about and has characters who are real. Sammantha is an honest to God hard working young women who is just trying to make ends meet. Jack is a rich bachelor who will do anything to make his sister happy, even being unhappy himself. Then Sam comes to Jack's room to alter his tux and wham....the whole thing begins. I can't say that I blame Sam for taking the money to be Jack's wife-to-be when a loan shark is after her. ( I can't say that I blame her for going to the loan shark in the first place....to bury her mother.) I did find that the book "suddenly resolved" the problem of telling the family that Sam is Sam and not the real wife-to-be, but the love story of the two falling in love is enough to make anyones heart miss a beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Read!!!!, August 26, 1999
I laughed, I cried, I did not want this book to end!!!! I was pleasantly surprised that the author was able to develop her characters so well in such a short, fast paced read. This is my first Patti Berg book and it will not be the last. I now have a new "favorite" author. Patti--please consider writing Mike Flynn's story!!
