High energy story that is simply fun to read aloud!,

This review is from: Wiggle (Bccb Blue Ribbon Picture Book Awards (Awards)) (Hardcover)
A superbly simple rhyming story about wiggling through your day. I wanted to wiggle with the pictures on each page. I thoroughly enjoyed how Scott Menchin, the artist, used a real rubber ducky in a fake drawn bathtub and a cartoon dog with a real pancake on his head. The mismatched pictures were basic, colorful and fun to look at. The story itself is still in the style of the author's other books, Click, Clack, Moo, but doesn't make you feel as if you have read a different version of it already. Fresh ideas and crisp clean pages will have this book screaming to be read every day. Also recommended to use for teachers of kindergarten or first grade to start off the day with a good wiggle. Wiggling and movement before sitting down all day in class can provide some much needed stress relief...even for kids!

you MUST get this book--it is terrific! the rhyme is very catchy, the pictures are colorful and fun and i dare a toddler to not like it. my son (19 months old) requests this book several times a day--he can't get enough of it. the story is just short enough to keep a toddler's attention while being long enough to tell a tale. HIGHLY recommended!!!

A true original!,

This is such a fun book. Fans of Doreen Cronin work get a special treat with Scott Menchin's illustrations. I absolutely love the pictures in this book! Menchin combines real pictures with illustrations and creative shadowing (not sure if that is a real word!) My 2-year-old has to take it to bed with her, she loves it so much. I recommend it to anyone with toddlers. In fact, it's my new birthday gift.

My children ages 4 and 2 absolutely love this book. They enjoy the zany characters and light-hearted rhymes. It is a fun way to get them introduced to rhymes for pre-reading skills in a child friendly manner. Definately a winner for a gift or for your own little one.

Very cute bedtime story,

My daughter got this from a book subscription her grandfather gave her and it's one of our favorite bedtime stories (especially for those nights when you want something a little shorter!). Like another reviewer, we usually wiggle to each page. The illustrations are nice - a mix of real photos and sketched elements - nothing fancy but cute and not ugly like a lot of children's books can be.
It's got a nice rhythm - I can see what some reviewers mean about it being awkard but it really isn't - it's not matchy rhymes like a poem but more like a conversation.

This is such a cute book about wiggling, which most toddlers can relate with. It asks silly questions and shows a happy pudgy dog wiggling in lots of different places and ways. The story has a rhyme throughout and is great to read aloud. Your little one will enjoy listening and seeing the cute digitally created illustrations in this fun story.

Improves with "Do your ears hang low",

We got this book from a box of Cheerios. The rhythm is awkward, but it improves if you sing the book to the tune of one of my dad's favorite camp songs: "Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow?" I had to modify a line or two - for example, it says, "If you wiggle with your breakfast, it might wind up on your head." This is about one syllable too long for both the book's meter and "Do your ears hang low," so, when I sing it to my daughter, the line corresponds to "Can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow," and I sing, "If you wiggle with your breakfast, it might LAND on your head." My daughter (she's two) requests this book frequently and now that I sing the lyrics, I have the book memorized. I used to memorize other things, but now I memorize children's books. My favorite books for creative rhyming will always be Dr. Seuss (read the highly sardonic one-star review of Green Eggs and Ham on this site - not mine, but I have copied it in full and sent it to friends) and also Sandra Boynton. I like Sandra Boynton's books - particularly Hippos Go Berserk - because her story lines are somewhat unpredictable. Enjoy!
