In a world of Dark Seers and Thaumaturgists, where the dead walk and demons possess the living to rule over a bloody empire, a young man called Aspin comes across a god bound to the forest floor. Aspin frees the god, and in return claims the Word of the Dead, but in doing so, he sets in motion events which will rip the world apart.
For the Seers of the Southern Protectorates destroyed the last of the necromancers centuries before, and they will not stand idly by as Aspin threatens to bring back the forgotten discipline, and even if Aspin survives the machinations of the Seers, how can he withstand the power and might of the Demon-Duke who has already conquered half the known world?
