5.0 out of 5 stars Only Merino Wool Will Do
Many people stay away from wool because it can be rough and bulky. Merino wool is entirely different. This type of wool is very soft to the touch. These socks are warmer than cotton without adding extra bulk. And they are breathable so you can also wear them in the summer. Another advantage is that they last much longer than cotton socks. 3.0 out of 5 stars Already wearing thin
I wear wool socks on a daily basis for work, with liners and steel-toed boots. The last socks I had lasted for 5-6 years, worn every other week, before finally wearing holes in the heels. I've worn these (4 pairs) 3 times each, and they're already starting to wear on the heels. No holes yet, but lots of pilling, leading me to think that they are wearing much more...

For those reviewers that complained about pilling, simply follow the washing instructions and turn them inside out before washing. Merino wool socks also tend to shrink. To help lessen shrinkage, dry on very low heat or simply lay them out to dry on a towel.

You should give these socks a try because of the following:
1. Soft and comfortable.
2. Can be worn year round.
3. Long lasting and therefore cost affective compared to cotton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome socks!!, February 15, 2007

I had been searching for socks I could wear with my jeans and replace the old athletic socks I was always wearing. These are the most comfortable socks I've ever owned! It's like wearing slippers! I think these socks are spoiling me to the point where all socks will now be compared against these. I'm afraid I'm becoming a sock connoisseur!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great socks, October 3, 2007

Wigwam has been making good products for some time and over the years I have come to rely on their quality construction. I ware these socks year round, weather hiking or at work they give me great cushion and keep my feet cool in summer and warm in winter.
The only nit I can pick, is that they tend to Pill quickly. This is not enough however to keep me from buying more when these are worn out...in a couple of years.

2.0 out of 5 stars Low Wool Content, December 24, 2009
I bought a three-pack of these and when I read the label on the package , the amount of actual wool was less than 20%! Very misleading item description--whatever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review, April 3, 2011
I have purchased the following socks in the past year to compare warmth, dryness, comfort:
Smart Wool
Wigwam "At Work DuraSole"
Wigwam "Merino Comport Hiker"
Wigwam "Everday Fusion"
Fox River "AXT
Fox River "Wick Dry Off Road"
My working condition are behind a desk, cold floor, wet feet in 1-2 hour period.
Obersavations (5 best - 1 worst):
Smart Wool. Warmth 5, dryness 2, comfort 4
Wigwam "At Work DuraSole" Warmth 3, dryness 4, comfort 5
Wigwam "Merino Comport Hiker" Warmth 5, dryness 4, comfort 5 Note: I still need to switch to dry socks in about 3 hours. My foot size is 10 ½ and the XL size is the best fit.
Wigwam "Everday Fusion" Warmth 2, dryness 2, comfort 3
Fox River "AXT" Warmth 2, dryness 3, comfort 3
Fox River "Wick Dry Off Road" Warmth 4, dryness 3, comfort 3

If you are looking to keep dry I would select the larger size when in doubt.

I have been wearing these for a week, and the socks are quite comfortable, even in hot weather. I specifically wanted a sock made with wool and NOT made with any cotton. The source of good things in socks is related to the use of wool, it is warm in winter, cool and dry in summer, wicks mosture, maintains its inulation value if it should get wet. Cotton is hard to dry, requires high temperatures for drying, stays clammy from moisture/sweat, and cotton makes my feet sweat (which is a problem). Nylon and acrylic are usually used to improve wool's wear characteristics, and these socks have both in the cloth, and elastic (rubber?). These socks tend to be quite comfortable, with a lot of elastic and cushioning in them, and they support my arches as well as anything I have worn in years.

Yes, its a (minor) pain to turn inside out to wash them, but as I do not do anything else to allow for the different fiber, I felt it was worthwhile, to prevent them from suffering premature wear, and possibly shrinkage. I simply set the dryer on normal heat, dry my clothes, and without cotton socks in the mix, the whole load dries quickly. I remove and turn them right side out, pair them up and put them into the drawer. Simple, quick, easy. Simply turn them inside out before you place them in the dirty clothes bin. Do NOT FAIL to do this.

I was recently diagnosed with gout, and when my feet get cold, it is MOST uncomfortable, as is anything that reduces circulation in the feet. These tend to reduce that problem, but that is just a bonus. If you take the time to treat them properly, the socks do not show any wear, or any way to even tell them apart from the new socks still in the drawer.

Try them, and see if they are not better than plain cotton or cotton blend socks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Feels squeaky and pilled up a ton, July 17, 2008

These socks seem thick and looks decent (for an ugly hiking sock). It pilled up like crazy, though, and it had the "squeaky" feel of a cheaper synthetic sock. It's OK for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding socks, September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I needed a pair of socks to go on a 2-week camping/hiking trip. The previous pairs I had would get really damp after a whole day on the trail. I gave Wigwam a try, and I'll never go back to any other socks again! I hiked for several days in these socks, and they always kept my feet dry. I've never written an Amazon review until now; that's how impressed I am with this product. Highly recommended.
