If you work with smaller discreet electronics, this set will not disappoint. If you are looking at spending this amount on a set of premium tools such as this one, you likely have experienced the cheap stuff and know that a set like this is going to make your work easier rather than working against you, saving both your time and your money.
I waited a few weeks after purchase to post this to let the glow wear off and posted this review a few weeks of intense use. at no point was I disappointed with the set or felt any buyers remorse due to the premium price. I liken it to buying a Rolex or similar Swiss timepiece - the quality is evident just holding it and a set like this will likely serve you faithfully the rest of your career.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve never had a component fail due to using a non-ESD safe tool when I should have been using one, but I figured I’d go ahead and get the yellow-tipped set for the peace of mind. These occupy a prominent place on my workbench, and I’d recommend them to anyone looking to make a lifelong investment in electronics repair.
First off, the base is made of painted metal not clear acrylic as pictured. This is a good thing as most shop owners/users will tell you, plastic tends to break/crack when your doing actual work in and around.
The screwdrivers come packaged separately in plastic wrap, but not all together. They are packaged according to type (Slotted, Philips, etc) There IS a chip lifter included. It came without a single scratch on anything and absolutely no excess plastic or burs on anything anywhere...almost makes me sad to use such a pristine set...almost.
When it comes to actual use, the top of the screwdrivers fits perfectly into my hands ( large/xlarge) and spins easily like a well oiled gear. I have zero problems with usage. The little extra length is a good thing with the shaft of the tools as it lets me get to some slightly harder to reach places. If you already know the size of the screws you will be working with then the added bonus of having the sides stamped with the exact size and type of screwdriver you are looking at makes your jobs THAT much easier, you can lay out the tools needed while working on sensitive electronics under a magnifying glass.
This set is not only comfortable and high quality, its downright sexy. I will let you know when/if the screen printing on the sides rub off....but this IS the best set I have ever bought and I full plan on buying a full size set of screw drivers/bits from them just because of that top level of quality....in case i ever need to use em...yep...I'm that impressed.
My only complain is the holder. While fairly small, it does it's job, it doesn't seem like much though went into how you'd arrange the bits. It's an 8x7 arrangement. I would love to have had something that held every type of bit in line, but it's small and light enough to pick up and push the bit you're after out from the bottom.
While they are very high quality, you can still damage them if you're not careful. The flathead heads will bend if you're using it on the wrong size screw……like my son did with mine. :(
Worth $300 plus? Yes. You'll have them for a very long time.
